Hello! Hope this is OK to post here, but we’re looking for extra opinions because our sweetie pie cat has developed a weird habit of peeing in our bed roughly every month or so.
Vet says he’s fine, he’s generally a happy guy who drinks a lot of water and eats a combination of wet & dry food regularly. He is neutered and is an only cat, and between me and my partner he gets a lot of attention and toys.
He does have some other weird bathroom related quirks though. He prefers to pee/poop if someone is in the toilet with him (his favourite way to do this is if we both use the toilet at the same time — most times he pees because he notices me or my partner are going to the toilet to do that ourselves). He also has a habit of getting excited and running off mid-poop, although this has lessened now that he’s 1 and a half years old. Some context maybe is that he was a rescue case as a kitten, and he never learned to suckle & had fluid in his brain when he was small due to malnutrition. I guess he might not have picked up some of the cat behaviours a baby cat normally would (he had to hang around other cats to learn how to groom himself, and even then, he’s not very good at it)
When he first started doing this, we thought he might be scent marking (it got worse when we went on a weekend trip without him, even though he liked his catsitter) but today it happened in the middle of the day when we were both home, his litterbox was clean, he had been fed and watered and petted, and there were no changes in the environment or his routine.
Is there something we’re missing? Please help because I would hate it if he was going through something that we could help him with and we just don’t see the signs!!
