AITA for refusing to take over my wife's chores after she quit her job?
I (32M) have been married to my wife (31F) for four years. We both worked full-time and split most household chores pretty evenly. three months ago, my wife left her job because she was unhappy there. We talked about it beforehand, and I supported her decision. She has been looking for something new, but hasn't found anything yet. since she stopped working, I've taken on more of the household expenses because my income is currently our only income. I don't mind that part, and we agreed she'd handle more things around the house while she's between jobs. the problem is that recently I've been coming home to dishes in the sink, laundry sitting around, and dinner not being made. When I bring it up, she says she's still stressed about not having a job and doesn't want to spend her entire day doing chores. last week, I asked if we could divide things differently until she finds work. She suggested that I continue doing my usual share of the chores while she focuses on job applications. I told her I thought that was unfair because I'm now working full-time and covering essentially all of our expenses, while she has more flexibility during the day she said I was acting like earning money was more valuable than everything else she contributes to the marriage. that wasn't my intention. I told her I don't expect her to become a full-time housekeeper, but I also don't think it's reasonable for everything to stay exactly 50/50 when our circumstances have changed she thinks I'm punishing her for being unemployed. I think we're both supposed to adjust when one person's workload changes.
AITA for expecting my wife to take on more household responsibilities while she's unemployed?
