2021 Kia Niro suddenly dead after “Key Not Detected” — 12V battery?

Hey everyone, I have a 2021 Kia Niro and today it first started showing “Key Not Detected”, then the power button only blinked yellow briefly and the car completely stopped turning on. The Kia app also stopped connecting.
I checked the 12V battery with a multimeter and it was reading only 4.2V. I’m the second owner and as far as I can see from the service book the 12V battery has never been changed, so it’s likely the original battery from 2021 (now 2026).
A few questions for other Niro owners:

Does this sound like a normal end-of-life 12V battery failure?

Has anyone had similar “Key Not Detected” symptoms before the battery died?

Is replacing the 12V battery DIY-friendly on the Niro?

Anything important I should be careful about when replacing it?

Did the car need any relearning/reset afterward?

Would appreciate any tips before I replace it myself. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I have a 2021 Kia Niro EV and I noticed something changed after someone drove my car.

Before, whenever I braked or regenerated energy, the dashboard used to show small numbers like +0.1 km, +0.2 km etc. showing recovered distance/charge from regen braking. The regen dots were also blue before.

Now:

- regen still works

- the gauge still goes into the CHARGE section

but the dots became gray

-and the +0.1 km recovered-distance popup no longer appears

I already:

switched back to ECO mode

disabled AUTO regen

But the old display still hasn’t returned.

Has anyone had this happen before? Is there a hidden cluster/display setting that controls this?
