Study Permit Already Submitted for Winter 2027 But Received Better Funded Offer for Fall 2026, What Should I Do?

I already submitted my Canadian study permit along with spouse open work permit application for Winter 2027 based on a course-based offer from Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). However, I recently received a new offer from Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) for a thesis-based MSc program (same program) with funding for Fall 2026.

Now I’m confused about the best approach:

  • Should I update my existing IRCC application through a webform with the new LOA and funding details?
  • Or should I withdraw the current application (Is it possible to withdraw?) and submit a completely new one for WLU Fall 2026?

My biometrics/medical are recently been completed, and I’m worried about timing since Fall 2026 is much earlier than my original Winter 2027 intake.

Has anyone here changed universities/intakes after already applying for a study permit? What worked best in your case?

Would really appreciate guidance from anyone with similar experience.

Another concern I have:

What happens if my current study permit application gets approved for the original Winter 2027 MUN intake before I raise an webform to IRCC?

In that case:

  • Can I still raise a webform afterward and change the university/intake successfully?
  • Or would it be safer to submit a completely new study permit application for WLU instead?

I am really worried about this matter as the timeline, university and province are all changing significantly. I’m worried about whether updating after approval could create complications at the visa/port-of-entry stage.

Would appreciate advice from anyone who faced a similar situation.
