Let's Celebrate. Share your latest NSV (non scale victory)

Eleven months into tirzepatide and right on schedule, my weight loss has really slowed. It's all good though, because there are still great things happening.

What about you? Did you have a cool non-scale victory lately?

I went to the eye doctor's office yesterday. My first visit was 12 months ago because I was having some weird vision issues so I was sent somewhere new by my gp. When I got to the office I realized the chairs were all super small and had solid arms. The single loveseat was occupied by little kids so I was stuck. Y'all when I tell you I was worried that I'd bring the seat with me when I got up, I am not kidding.

Yesterday I slipped into that chair like it was silk. Victory! (it's the little things)

Tell me yours!

The cost of semaglutide/wegovy/ozempic (are you sitting down?)

The list price for Wegovy without insurance is approximately $1,349 per month, but it can be obtained for as low as $149 to $399 per month depending on the dose and form (pill or injection) through various programs in the United States. Dropping prices sound like a deal.

Perhaps, until you read a recently published article that states: Estimated generic injectable costs ranged from $28 to $140 per person-year; oral formulations ranged from $186 to $380 per person-year.

Per. Year .... "incorporating formulation, packaging, taxation, and profit assumptions"

Injector pens cost far more than the medication.

Boy, there are some happy investors out there.

Thoughts?

Hit my one year goal early🎉

I am so thrilled today. My starting weight was 290 at the end of August 2025 and my hope was to get to 220 within 12 months. That was my wedding weight. Tomorrow will be 11 months and I got on the scale and it was 219. Let me tell you I was absolutely certain I lost nothing this week because the scale hasn’t been moving. But I decided to stop being too freaked out about that and just put 1 foot in front of the other and get on with it. When I tell you that I was stunned, that is an understatement.

So many NSVs this past eleven months too. I am back in the smallest size clothes I own. I can now get up into my husband‘s truck easily. I can do squats, ok little ones but I am 65 y’all, when a year ago I could barely step up on a curb. I can lift weights again. I can lift things up into the highest cupboard in my kitchen without fearing that I will drop them. When my husband got hurt, I was able to do all the yardwork without his help. I think, especially being an older person, having some solid fitness is so necessary because there’s nobody else to do the things.

Oh one other really bizarre non scale victory. Yesterday I was getting a facial and I came out of the building and heard somebody call my name. But it wasn’t like a shout. It was more like a question. I turned around and realized it was somebody that I work with that I don’t see very often. So I went up to chat with her and she said oh my gosh, I was kind of afraid to call your name because I wasn’t sure it was you. I almost didn’t recognize you. Can I just say that might be the best compliment ever lol.

So let me tell you it’s not too late. This medication if it is the right one for you can be brilliant. Don’t worry if you have an off week. Just put 1 foot in front of the other and before you know it you’re gonna be right where you wanna be. And I am so appreciative to this group because I have learned so much about this medication and how to manage from all of you so I wish you all so much success. Onward to the next goal.

Some roads are bumpy but worth it. 🤓

Physician, I'm broken hearted

Oh gosh. I spent well over a year looking for a physician who understood obesity, supported weight loss medications, understood larger bodies in general and women in particular. I found a fantastic doctor and even though I had to drive nearly an hour one way to see her, I was ok with that. I've been with her a year.

My physical is next week and I just got a call that she left the practice and is now 90 minutes away and cannot accept new patients in this practice.

It may not seem like a big deal, since insurance doesn't even pay for my meds. But I actually cried at my first appointment with her because it was the first time in decades that I felt seen and heard and cared about by a doctor. My issues were taken seriously, and I was given the referrals I needed.

I know this may not be the case for everyone, but I have had weight issues my. entire. life. I'm talking from toddler age. I've had more traumatic medical appointments than I can count. I put up with it for a long time but when I finally got the courage to switch (yet again) and really look long and hard for the right fit, I felt like I could exhale for the first time.

I've been reassigned to another woman at this practice and I mean the PAs I have seen have all been fine so maybe she will be ok but her reviews aren't leading me that direction. I know this is probably a big whine (do you want cheese with that wine?) but the last week has been one thing after another and this really was the breaking point. Ugh. Wish me luck. All I need now is to get an "I don't believe in weight loss medications, calories in calories out" doctor.

Share your latest Non Scale Victory

I think that sometimes the number on our scale becomes all too important. So let’s share a Non Scale Victory that we are tickled by.

My latest NSV was getting a new bra fitting. I now have a 36 in band size. I didn’t have that ever that I recall. Even after WLS surgery I only got down to a 38.

What about you?

Research on stopping/restarting GLP-1

This substack article references newer endocrine research regarding what happens in the body for cycling on and off the medications. Causes and consequences of discontinuation of GLP1RAs or tirzepatide. She also links the actual research but it is only a preview so I can't see the specifics. Still, this might be of interest. I expected the news of weight regain, but not some of the other reversals. If anyone can see specifics (cohort size, etc.) I bet it would be helpful.

Food Noise? Science can measure it now

I found this post fascinating. Science now has a questionnaire and a tool to measure food noise. Something that many of us knew about, or became aware of once we got on the medication, is now being researched. I know not everyone has experienced it, but when food noise went quiet for me, it was revolutionary. Food noise

Gals - Pain in the Tatas

Many years ago when I had weight loss surgery I woke up one day to really awful breast pain. It started under my arm and shot around to the front of my breast. I could not bend forward without it being excruciating. I went to see my OB/GYN who told me that it was Cooper’s ligament pain. I had never heard of it. Even other women I now know who have lost a lot of weight have never heard of it. Just a heads up as you’re losing weight even if you think bra and your sports bra fit well, go get a new fitting if you can after you lose weight. I thought my bras were fine. Apparently they were not. So much so that for about 10 days, I had to shower with a bra on because letting the girls fly free hurt like the Dickens. So this is just my PSA for the day. Take care of the Tatas and they will take care of you. That said, you should always talk to your doc just in case it’s something else. In my case it’s happened twice now and both times it was Cooper’s ligament. I really want to kick Cooper where it doesn’t shine. Just saying.

What everyone should know about Med spas that dispense GLP-1s

This is a pretty eye-opening post about Med Spas - I was particularly surprised that only 2 states have any oversight and often there are no medical professionals in the building. If you or someone you know buys medications from a spa, you should be aware. I had a friend who got hers at a local spa and they were very pricey, never showed her the vial or told her what her script was and charged her an outrageous amount of money. They also pre-filled her vials in a backroom. Fortunately she didn't have any terrible side effect but as you will read, that is not always the case. As in everything, buyer beware. Who is actually watching the Med Spas

Recommendation

hi, this is a real quick post. I just got done listening to a talk by Dr. Terry Simpson and I highly recommend you look him up. He has two podcasts and also a Substack. You can find links at his website. He’s also on Instagram. The reason I recommend him is that he is an obesity medicine specialist, a bariatric surgeon and a prescriber and user of GLP medications. I learned so much just from one talk. He shared some really great information especially for how the medications can work for you at different stages of your life. I learned that if you are post menopausal and you are on these medications apparently they’re incredibly protective for your bones and I did not know that. He also recommended to not use sugar-free electrolytes because a small amount of sugar he says is necessary for them to work properly and he said if you’re truly having an issue, he recommends Pedialyte. This I have never heard before. Also, and this one hit home because I’m currently dealing with it is if you have a stomach virus, delay your shot until you are completely sure that the virus has cleared your system. Otherwise you will have a repeat of the symptoms because digestive tract moves more slowly. Isn’t that delightful? Anyway check him out if you want I found him incredibly and enlightening drterrysimpson dot com
