How to find out about mystery ancestor
I was recently searching through a database of military pension records and found a record for a Bert F. who served in the Civil War. The only problem is I don’t have any information on such a person aside from this one record, so I have no way of knowing when he was born, when he died, or who his parents, spouse(s), and child(ren) were. Does anyone have any advice on how to find out more information given what little I have to go off of? Does the VA or some other government organization have a way to research these kinds of records? Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide.
As a side note, I know he is related to my family in some way because he shares my very unique last name, I just don’t know what exact relation we have.
