8th gen civic making ticking noise
I have a 2007 Honda Civic 1.8L 5MT. It has ~125k miles. It’s leaked oil, burned oil, etc but the leaks are completely fixed, burning is very minimal and I always keep it topped off.
Recently, it started making a ticking noise that I noticed at idle, then it would go away and I couldn’t hear it. Now I hear it constantly, but under different conditions.
If mostly occurs until very very light acceleration, like pretty much just maintaining speed. But, it also happens when accelerating from a stop. It does sound like it’s getting faster and louder as RPMS go up. I’ve noticed the noise when the engine is warm/at operating temp, but also the exhaust might be too loud when it’s cold for me to hear the noise. It is very subtle at sometimes, louder at others.
I should also add I had a mechanic tell me that the ticking sound was because my clutch needed to be replaced about 8 months ago. This noise now is much louder and seems more like engine noise.
What could the problem be? Any help diagnosing the issue would be great.
