Things I did/did not do to get into a T25 - transfer edition

Hi folks,

With all of the anxiety around applying and wondering whether or not you’re “good enough,” I wanted to share a list of application ‘negatives’ I had while still being able to transfer. I think a lot of us get swept up by the fact that people apply with perfect stats and second-guess themselves, so here you go:

- 12 B’s and 2 C’s on my final high school transcript
- No test scores (except AP LOL)
- No research, no publishing, none of that
- No e-board positions at my college
- No national awards
- No international awards
- No awards won in college (if we’re not counting Dean’s List)
- Applied for financial aid
- No “passion project”
- 3.85 CGPA at time of applying (which no, is not a bad GPA at all. But if you all knew the class I got a B in you would all burst out laughing)
- Applied with 60 credits at the time, 76 completed
- Completed my Associate’s in two semesters, so really only had a year of college coursework under my belt
- All essays, including my personal statement, were developed over the course of a week MAXIMUM but typically in 1-3 days
- Did not decide to officially transfer until February 27th, with my first deadlines being MARCH 1ST 😭😭😭
- Going back to my previous point, this led to my high school transcripts and LORs being 2-6 weeks late

There’s definitely more I can’t think of at the moment.

Headed to Cornell this fall. Have hope yall!!! I know you’re probably sick of hearing that apps are holistic, but if this exhaustive list isn’t proof that 4.0/4.0/1600 IS NOT “bare minimum” to crack the T25, idk what is.

Curious to see. This is my first cycle transferring— I knew that decisions would be released in waves and would be released later in the academic year, but something about most schools this year feels… off, almost? Does this happen every year or is this cycle just particularly competitive/unique?
