Incoming Freshman

Hey everyone I’m an incoming freshman at umich studying data science. I’m extremely thankful that I got in but I genuinely hated it when I toured it last week. I don’t envision myself spending the next 4 years there.

I’m hoping to look into transferring and would love for yalls feedback.

Context: Tuition isn’t a major factor. ( No Finical Aid required)

Now for the list ( please feel free to give me yalls opinions on schools that would honestly be too hard to transfer into or require specific classes)

Columbia
Uchicago ( my dream school 💔)
Cornell
Penn

Stats: 4.0 Test Optional
ECs: Multiple published research papers & placements in olympiads. ( also had leadership in multiple clubs and started a non profit with measurable impact and close to 180 volunteers)

I’m extremely thankful for umich for seeing something in me, but I honestly can’t imagine myself spending the next 4 years there. I’d love for yalls feedback!

results (it truly only takes one)

I decided to apply as a transfer very last minute and was scrambling to get all the components of my applications done within a short timeframe. I hope sharing this gives someone else the courage or push to just go for it, so you’re not left with regrets.

Rice: Rejected
Duke: Rejected
Columbia (CC): Rejected
Cornell (Non-TO): Accepted!!

I received my decisions in this order, so I honestly didn’t think it would work out and it was a rollercoaster of emotions 😭

But, it only takes one. I wish everyone the best of luck and thank you!

UCLA vs USC vs NYU

hey!

I was lucky enough to get accepted to

- UCLA Business Economics
- NYU Stern
- USC Marshall

I was wondering which would be the best option for me? I’m an international student planning to go into Finance.

Desperately need advice

TLDR: I want to work in finance (IB preferably), I'm a freshman at UCSB, applied to transfer to NYU and USC (econ both), got in NYU, got a SGR from USC yesterday.

When I was a senior in HS I thought I wanted to stay close to home so I only applied UCs and USC. I only got into UCSB and I totally regret not appealing the USC decision. I had a 4.3 W 3.9 UW in HS. Now I have a 3.79 at UCSB and I think I will end with a 3.82 here. I initially applied to transfer at the 2 places I could really see myself. I didn't apply anywhere else because I didn't even know that the chances were pretty good to do 4 year to 4 year transfer. USC was always my top option and I applied nyu as a back up but not really thinking about it. Now that I got in NYU, I realize that CAS econ is not worth it to go and pay almost 100k a year for. However, even if I study econ at USC, its still worth it for me personally. I just want advice on what i should do from here. I honestly like UCSB and have made friends but I want a high paying finance role and UCSB just doesn't seem like it'l help me.

Additionally, I followed the usc transfer planning guide dilligently. I based my schedules around it so that I would complete the reqs. This was super hard to do and I totally went out of my way to do it. For example, I took classes called Antarctica and Dinosaurs which don't help me at UCSB at all, solely for USC. I was so bummed when I got a SGR yesterday. My ECs and essays were honestly really great. I am probably the most involved freshman you can get at UCSB. I am currently taking dinosaurs now but it's notorious for being one of the hardest classes here. It would take up so much of my time to get an A so I made it pass no pass as it won't even count towards my curriculum at UCSB. I would probably get a B+ if I did my very best though but that would drop my gpa. I will get As in my 2 other classes this quarter so my quarter gpa will be 4.0.

I toured NYU and I honestly loved it. The city, the people, the school itself (i actually like the no campus thing). The only problem with nyu is I can't transfer to stern. For the price out of state and the distance to my home it's prob not worth it for me.

Let me know what you think I should do with my life from here ngl. This is definitely a first-world problem but it pisses me off because my friend who worked less hard than me in my same position got in USC. 😭

HUGE DILEMMA: I attend one of the top 5 public universities (semi-target for finance). Tbh idk if I should stay or go if I’m getting in-state next yr.

Money isn’t “a deal breaker” but money is STILL money. 300k would be paid w mainly loans…

Loans are tough…but my personal philosophy says it’s all about “the price is right” -> is it worth it

What r the chances of getting off the Duke WL… 🙏🙏🙏 dream school

Does Harvard not accept any online classes?

(this is for psych+philosophy major btw)One of my reach school Im applying to this upcoming cycle is harvard. i was reading through the transfer page and came across this. "Unfortunately, we are unable to grant credit for certain accomplishments. Harvard does not typically award credit for: Online or distance education courses"

Almost all of my coursework has been online async besides labs, an online sync class, and an in-person film class. My first year(right now) has been so much online because of medical reasons(seizures) and my coursework for next year will be the same since im starting a full-time job and only have room for my bio and chem labs.

I know it doesnt affect admission bc on transcript it doesnt specify the modality, but if by a miracle I get in, I wouldn't accept knowing that literally only my labs would transfer over and I'd essentially be a first year. And since credit evaluation happens during the summer there's no way of knowing before starting.

If its pretty much always no exceptions than I probably wont bother applying

USC SGR dropped class

hey everyone

i got a spring grade request from usc and i know that is usually a good sign but im a little worried about how my spring semester ended up looking

im currently a freshman at brown. calc 1 here is mandatory pass/fail so that is how it shows up on my transcript and i did that last semester, ended with a 4.0

this semester i also got a 4.0, but I dropped calc 2. the main reason was the shooting on campus in december. it happened in the same building where a lot of my lectures were held and after that going back into those large lecture halls was pretty difficult for me personally so i decided to reduce my course load and focus on the classes i felt i could do well in

i also took physics 1 pass/fail even though that was optional. the class was taking up a lot of time and with everything going on i felt it was the best way to manage my workload and protect my gpa, and it was my counselors recommendation too

in my two graded classes i earned a’s so i finished the semester with a 4.0 in all graded coursework

i also recently got a summer internship in construction management/business operations so i could tell my admissions officer about that

do you guys think it is worth sending my usc admissions counselor a short update explaining the dropped class the pass/fail decision and the internship or would that just draw more attention to something they may not care much about

thanks in advance

Input on NYU Econ vs IU Finance

For context I go to IU Kelley and I am trying to go into investment/wealth management. In your opinion what would you go to and why? Any input is appreciated.
