Left Job Due to Family Death. Might Leave the Country. Now What?
Basically, I left my job due to a death in my immediate family. I was appalled by how my company, coworkers, and even friends were so nonchalant and almost opportunistic about it.
One of my coworkers a month later tried to sabotage my reputation with my manager claiming I wasn't "smiling enough". I worked on old tech in a basement not in sales. The complaint was inappropriate since she knew what happened and she was positioning me for the layoffs potentially occurring in March. The worst part, my manager acknowledged he needed to lay someone off and told me it was my fault for not smiling more... a month after the funeral.
They both knew. Monsters.
Truthfully, I am so disgusted with how inhumane the field is. I've looked into moving overseas to Germany or some other EU country to work there. I've heard the work culture is less diabolical, but I don't know if this is escapism or not.
For the record, I work in the Bay Area. Just very disappointed and wondering now what.
Is this just one of those "if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen"?
Because I'm ready to get out of this kitchen.
