New to chickens and wanted to check with more experienced chicken people. My brooder is about 32x46 inches and about 18 inches tall. I have the ability to add another 8-9 inches in height by adding another box on top of these ones. They are made to stack. I have 4 ladies in there. I'm wondering if this set up is sufficient, and if I can keep them in this their whole brooding or if I should add the extra box for height at some point. Also, I'm aware that chicken wire isn't predator proof, this brooder is on our enclosed porch and safe from anything getting in. The coop will have hardware cloth, not chicken wire. I just added the roosting bar today as they are a little over 2 weeks old and have started "popcorning" all over 😅 lots of hopping and flapping. I also have a piece of insulation board that I lay on the "cold" half of the brooder at night to retain heat because we are in Michigan and it still gets cold-ish.

New to chickens this year. Not totally unfamiliar as I've got people close to me who have raised chickens and I did quite a bit of research before finally making the jump (planned to for a couple of years and just this year felt ready). I'm just super paranoid. Here's my question, I have 4 chicks that are a little less than 2 weeks old, brought them home about 10hrs ago. They are so quiet. They do peep here and there, softly. I don't here any loud distressed peeps. I just feel like I need to check for signs of life all the time because I don't hear any noise from them. Is this generally a good thing or bad thing?
