Silkies just Sharing
My kiddo has invested her time and heart into raising silkies for pets, show and to save money for a gift for her dad. She’s doing so well so sharing her 7th hatch aren’t they cute!

Almost 2 months. Legend is probably a He, because that's how things work. If it's a favorite it's either a rooster or died. So. Whatever. What's one more rooster. But seriously. I'm so proud of this little silkie chick. He's going to be a stud.
Also he's usually not brown lol. He was taking a dirt bath.
My girls are obsessed with these large pieces of sea shell in our plant pots (despite having all-year-round access to crushed oyster shell in the arc).
Do I need to be concerned at the size of the chunks they’re consuming? They pretty much eat them whole.
Cheers 🙏
Alien is maybe a chicken we don't really know he's weird he makes weird screeches he just looks goofy and he's somehow tall and he was born not too long ago but he is still weird that's why his name is alien
My 12 week Black Sex Link Chick has always made different noises, but the other morning as I was leaving for work around 7 am, she was making this loud honking sound. Is she ok? She's not a rooster, is she? 😭
UPDATE: I got off work early, and went around some more. I found a smaller opening, higher up in the run, directly below where some hens like to roost at night. Beneath that, there are a bunch of smudged 4 toe tracks approximately 2 inches across, and a few more in various places in the coop. Based on this, I believe it was a bobcat, that couldn't figure out how to get back out. Which is how the side wall got punched out ward as should in the images.
Original post:
As mentioned. The coop got busted into, and I am trying to ID the animal.
We heard some noise last night, and went down to look at it. We saw some bright yellow eyes going deeper into the woods. So we set a trap up.
Whatever it was, ripped ignored the trap and ripped a hole in the coop.
This coop has kept out near 20lb racoons, skunks, possums, and hawks ripping at this side before. So whatever it was was very determined to open it up this much.
I am leaning towards a raccoon, based on the eyes last night (as bright and yellow as lightning bugs).
Any thoughts?
EDIT:
Located in Pennsylvania, about an hour south of Harrisburg.
14 carcasses, and I suspect one missing completely, the feathers make a trail several hundred feet.
Not really any digging, but we have a few inches of hardware cloth buried around the base, that usually deters digging.
I surprised my fiancée with chickens but little did I know I was surprising myself. I fell in love with these fellas, I spent way more time than I’d even like to admit with them. They aren’t just birds to me (maybe the rooster is) but they’re pets.
She laid an egg almost a year ago that looked funny, she lost all energy and starting moping around. The vet gave her meloxicam, and she was almost back to her normal self. Up until april 29, we took her back to the vet for another shot of meloxicam. She was ok again, but for a much shorter time.
Within a week, she deteriorated and couldn’t fly up to the perch anymore. Getting down, was just as much trouble. Her belly started growing at the same time, so walking was hard, pecking the ground, sleeping, everything was a challenge. She was no longer enjoying life.
Yesterday I called the vet to make an appointment to get her in, and today, I had to do it. I know I couldn’t do anything more, but I feel like I let this poor bird down. I know I’ve gone further than most would trying to take care of a “bird” but it was a pet to me. I’m sorry Little Toe. I hope you’re at peace. Who knew you’d make a grown man cry. 😢
Hey guys, first time chicken owner, I have 3 hens and a roo. We got them about 4 years ago, they never had any health issues, until now.
It's been really hot here for the last week, so I wonder if it might be heat stroke? They always have fresh water and vegetables, we sprayed them with cool water when the days were really hot.. It's getting okayish now, max 30°C.
However, the roo is very lethargic, doesn't crow anymore, barely moves. He still eats and drinks though.
Could it be sour crop or something else maybe?
Thank you for your answers!
Update: We're taking him to the vet, thanks to everyone for giving us advice! :)
This morning the family favourite hen started wheezing heavily. It's been going on for a few hours now and seems to be getting marginally worse if anything. I've got her isolated from the rest of the flock in a rather unideal temporary set up but now I have no idea what to do.
She was completely fine in herself yesterday, bumbling around in the garden as is her nature but now she seems sort of lethargic. There is also a slight discharge around her nose (unsure if this is just moisture from where she has been drinking or mucous)
Initially I figured it was panting due to the heat but it isn't letting up. Do I take her to a vet? Or has she gotten something lodged in her throat? Is there anything I can do?
(Any responses will be greatly appreciated because I am genuinely very worried)
Lost my favorite chicken this evening, came out to check their waters before the storm and immediately knew something was wrong when she didn’t run out to greet me. Found her in the nest box and have intermittently been sobbing and looking at photos for the last few hours.
She gave me so much joy, always would jump in my lap and fall asleep on my arms. She would sometimes purr when I was holding her. I know I gave her a good life, but it’s so hard to think of her suffering at the end. She was such a good girl and I’m so lucky I had her.
Rooster?
They’re about 17 weeks old - just got my first eggs this weekend from one of my- now I wake up and hear this on the camera this morning for the first time.
Harry recovered the next day. She laid two soft shelled eggs, ate one of them, and forgave me for my diligent care of her.
