Advice In Australia (Broken Hinge XM5’s)
First post here so firstly hello fellow Sony users.
Had my XM5’s which I thought in June 2025 snap at the hinge which seems to be by far the most common problem these headphones have.
I’m hunting for some advice from Australian users. I took them to JB Hi-Fi (an electronics store for any overseas users) who in turn sent them to Sony for evaluation. Sony however declared me liable and quoted physical damage.
I paid $450 or so for them and they quoted $420 for repair so I’m fairly annoyed, especially as a long time Sony customer who brought a pair of the ever-reliable XM4’s to bide me over until these were fixed.
Long story short, do I have any chance of seeking a repair or replacement through consumer protection or should I start exploring options to try and patch them up myself. The Amazon bracket thing is $50 which is a bit of a risk if it doesn’t work.
Thanks for any replies in advance!
