Never again, I guess
Both buds (WF1000-XM4) totally dead after DIY battery replacement. It's probable I did something wrong, but I/we shouldn't be having this problem in the first place.

I’ve had the headphones for almost a month I love them but I still hear things at the gym like weights or just small talk. Am I being unrealistic by saying I don’t want to hear a nuke go off lmao. I’ve done the ear fit test and it passes and gone up a size but insanely uncomfortable
I bought the XM5 in February 2026, didn't want to believe it.. I have always put them in their case, never slept with them, never dropped them. AND AFTER ONLY 6 MONTHS I go to put them on my head and they simply broke in my hands. This is unacceptable.
Any advice?
I'm guessing you guys contacted sony, they didn't do anything, then you bought the thing on amazon to repair them?
I feel so dumb 😔
I (without thinking) used them to kill a spider but I broke my headphones in the process. It happened so fast. But the sound still works, is there a way to fix this or are they done?
Just had a quick question about my setting for my XM6. From my understanding in the Sony Connect app Prioritize Sound Quality uses LDAC. In my bluetooth setting I have "LDAC", does it matter if i have that option on in the bluetooth setting
I've had and loved my XM4's since 2022, and sound-wise they've always worked perfectly. But, about a year and a half ago I accidentally pulled on the right side too hard and the right joint connection broke. Since then, I have been using painter's and duct tape to keep the headphone together and usable. As you can see, I also had a tear in the headband cushion that I covered with duct tape as well. Again, no issues with the sound or noise-cancelling.
So I've been looking into maybe just replacing the entire headband in one, but I'm not sure where to start. I've seen a lot of unofficial sites selling replacements like AliExpress and EBay. Apparently, the official replacement parts website is Encompass, but that says that they no longer stock the original replacement part and instead have the "A-5018-265-B Headband Assy B Sv-blk" as an equivalent, which turns out to be almost $80 in total with shipping fees. It looks similar, but is it? Should I buy a replacement from a different site, which range from $40-$70?
And does anyone know how I would go about replacing it? Would I need any special tools I can't fashion from household items? Are there any videos on it that I can follow (every time I look it up I only find videos about replacing the headband cushion part, not the whole thing)? Or should I not bother and just send it to a professional? Any recommendations on that front?
Any advice would be appreciated! I love these headphones so much and I know how reliable they are; I just want to be able to use them for many more years.
Also, I know the earpads are kinda messed up, but it doesn't bother me, so no need to replace.
Should i glue it or buy that amazon replacement for 40$ ?
Sony agent in my town is terrible
found some used xm6s on amazon for 200, considering the buy 🙏
holy shit dude. from the not being able to play games without the audio going to 10 bits, to me being literally less than 10 feet away from my fucking pc and my audio is cutting in and out like im on the fucking oceansgate submarine and my pc is back in time to when we first landed on the fucking moon. in NO FUCKING WAYYYY should I ever and I mean EVER spend four hundred and fifty fucking dollars on a pair of headphones that work worse than a pair from the fucking dollar tree in the bottom of a ball bin, im so sick of how shitty these headphones are, Ive resorted to using HyperX cloud IIs from like 2019 till I can find a suitable replacement, id rather listen to a baby cry on a plane while listening to cocomelon at full volume instead of using that absolute pile of garbage I was coerced to putting on my fucking head. thank you for reading.
Just some shots to test the imaging machine, only thing I thought to grab. Enjoy.
Hey folks, just wanted to share a massive win against corporate bullying. If you’ve ever been denied a warranty claim for a known manufacturing defect under the excuse of "physical damage," this post is for you.
The Problem:
I own a pair of Sony WH-ULT900N (Forest Gray). Out of nowhere, under normal usage, a crack developed on the rotating shaft of the left headband. I dropped it off at my local Authorized Service Center (ASC). A few days later, Sony’s Regional Customer Support emailed me completely rejecting my FOC (Free of Cost) repair. They classified a structural failure as "physical damage" and slapped me with a repair estimate of ₹8,484.
The Catch:
I knew I didn't break them. A quick search showed that Sony Global actually issued a public Service Program acknowledging a massive design flaw in this exact model ("Cracks may occur on the rotating shaft..."). My serial number fell exactly in that defective batch. When I confronted the local ASC and the regional team, they played dumb, blaming the "Indian backend database."
The Retaliation:
I didn't have the time to fight a 2-year long court battle, but I wasn't going to pay 8.5k for their manufacturing defect. So, I sat down with my uncle (who is an advocate), did some solid legal research, and drafted a hard-hitting Consumer Court complaint meant for the Govt. of India's E-Jagriti portal.
I emailed the PDF preview of our drafted legal complaint directly to Sony Corporate and the Grievance Officer. I attached the Global Service Program notice and gave them a strict 48-hour ultimatum before I officially filed it online. After that I WhatsApped the exact same draft to the local ASC manager. I formally intimated him that he and his service center are named as "Opposite Party No. 2 and 3" in my lawsuit and would have to physically appear in the District Court.
I absolutely REFUSED to bring my unrepaired headphones back home. Leaving them at the service center meant the job sheet stayed 'Open' and the liability remained on them.
The Victory:
The 48-hour window passed. Suddenly, the local ASC called me up. The tone had completely changed. "Sir, we have arranged the parts under a special request, your FOC repair is approved." Yeah, special request my foot. The moment they saw their names on a legit court draft, they folded.
I went to pick them up today. They tried to get me to sign a paper that still had the ₹8,484 amount printed on it (never sign this, it’s an 'Acknowledgment of Debt' and voids your warranty). I made them print a clean ZERO bill stating full FOC repair, tested the ANC and hinges at the counter, signed it, and walked out.
My current pair is getting old and the battery is starting to annoy me.
I use them pretty much every day - music, YouTube, commuting, sometimes just wearing them around the house.
I care more about comfort and battery than having every new feature.
What pair has genuinely been worth keeping? Anything you ended up regretting ?
I've had to hunt around for this deal for weeks and it finally paid off. Costco had a huge clearance on these a couple of months ago for $150 which effectively sold them out everywhere in stores. The price eventually went down even further to $100 but since they were sold out it was effectively not even a real price. However, I noticed these would occasionally show up as in stock in stores. I assumed it was just an inaccurate system count. Whenever I called the store to check they'd tell me it was wrong and out of stock. I did this for several weeks until an amazing supervisor finally offered to go cycle count her inventory and was able to confirm they had one last one in stock. Thank you supervisor MVP 🙏
I've had them a few days and they are truly bad shockingly so
I used the large tips because the others were even worse
Running the 1.5 firmware
The sound is good but the ANC is comparable to a £20 budget pair from Amazon.
Rtngs said they were the best on the market I'm sure reviewers are being paid to promote them because either that or they're divorced from reality or mine are defective and the active ANC is broken brand new. I do get the white noise with the ANC and the transparency mode works well
If you're going to market yourself as World Class and charge like it then at least come close or beat out the Soundcore
Not sure the constant advised twizzling to improve the passive ANC is very well thought out either, plus they cause ear fatigue
