Lately, I’ve been spending more time building local business lead lists, and one thing I’ve learned is that quality matters much more than quantity.
A huge list is easy to build. A clean list with useful, accurate information is much harder.
Right now my process feels too manual, so I’m looking for better ways to improve it.
How are you building quality lead lists?
I was preparing for a local outreach campaign last week and realized something interesting.
Actually reaching out wasn’t the hardest part. Preparing the lead list was.
Most of my time went into researching businesses, checking if their information was current, and deciding which leads were worth targeting.
I have done research into such tools and found one named Outscraper Google Maps Scraper which works on scraping business data from Google Maps.
It would be interesting to know about your experiences with such tools.
How do you usually prepare your lead lists before outreach?
It has occurred to me how different students treat their college education – some care only about their grades, others – internships, participation in leadership programs, getting different types of certificates or building up contacts.
Recently I’ve noticed that there is a lot of talk about different programs, such as SCLA, programs devoted to developing leadership skills, building up networks, getting scholarships and being ready for a career. Some consider such programs to be helpful, whereas others believe that students overestimate the importance of such programs in comparison with practical experience.
What do you think, from your experience, is there anything that students can do to preprare for job invterviews?
I've been researching ways students can stand out before graduation, and professional certifications seem to come up frequently. Some people claim certifications helped them secure internships and entry-level positions, while others argue that employers care more about experience and projects.
While looking into career-development opportunities, I ended up reading several SCLA reviews and discussions about student organizations like SCLA, that focus on helping students build leadership experience, improve professional skills, and access career-readiness resources.
It will be interesting to hear the opinions of people who have already experienced this process. Do the certifications bring any advantages in their careers?

I was helping a friend with outreach for his business a few days ago, and we used Google Maps to find leads.
