John and George

John and George

If you haven't, you really need to read this book. It's fascinating, very well-written/sourced, and it doesn't focus on his death.

There was a passage, when John and Yoko announced that they were going to put out a new album, that was quite good, but sad.

After John and Yoko announced un upcoming album, Paul sent flowers and congratulations, Ringo called and was very excited for them, and George called, but John didn't return his call, because he was quite upset/hurt by George's autobiography.

It just was so sad to me. It really motivated me to tell people I love them. Anyway, it's a fabulous book about Beatle John.

Student Assignment

We are going to watch the argument between George and Paul, when George leaves, and the, "going on the roof..." discussion, and my students are going to try to mediate, hopefully a bit better than The Beatles.

Any thoughts on things to add/subtract from this assignment?

Also, I had them pick one of the 13 albums to listen to over the weekend and write a musical review of it. Pretty interesting takes!

Extended School Assignment

There are only a few days of instruction left, and rather than bore them to tears, I thought I would give them a bit of exposure to The Beatles.

If you have a teenage child, please ask them if they would be interested in doing a Five-Part class project, using the Get Back documentary.

Day 1: Introducing the Beatles, circumstances surrounding the sessions, group dynamics. The assignment is to create a flow-chart of band relationships, musical strengths, memorable quotes, important scenes (first 30 minutes of Part 1"

The rest of the day assignments focus on resolving conflicts, the documentary style of being the fly on the wall (their assignment is to make a three minute documentary about something they do every day), and placing the Beatles in musical contexts. The last assignment is to watch the whole Rooftop Concert.

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated, greatly! Most of them will have never heard any Beatles' song, so it's all new to them. I'm excited!!!
