It's a quirky device and I am still new to it, so hopefully other replies are from gurus. Take my advice as an experienced n00b with good pinch of salt.

Anyways,

get a 3d printed r36 ultra grip, so it feels like holding an Xbox controller. You can get like holey ones to help with sweaty hands too. If you gonna finish gta3 or move to stardew valley you need the grip to save your hands.
Sometimes tapping power button to go dark, and again to restore fixes problems. Sound ones and game crash freezes especially
The SD card springs on these these sucks. It's easy to jam cards in if they fail. Pointy ceramic tweezers, or adding a pull tab of tape for easy retrieval are lifesavers, but hopefully something you will never need.
If you do need to pull apart, Sometimes you have to remove battery cover to get at last 2 of the 6 Philips head screws that hold case together. Depends on model.
Backup any .dtb files on boot partition of the stock card. It's nice having them already on computer if you oops and need to restore. If you can't see all partitions of stock card, as in boot one and at least a rooms one, then might have to use a windows tool to give partition a drive letter, so windows displays it.
It is ultra autistic about filenames being upper or lower case. If windows won't let you change file name or type to lower case, you need to first change filename a little, then change filetype to lower or upper case. Then go back and change filename back to original.
Why doesn't port work if you have rom or game files? Well roms and games have heaps of versions. Stardew needs a weird beta build, others need classic versions, or gog ones.
Every OS so far has strengths and problems. Arkos4clones has joystick led and select button issues. Darkos has video and option restrictions. The different stock os are not terrible, and making a clone of them you can just restore to a new card if needed is viable strat imho.
The back trigger buttons are very loud. The supplied speaker is terrible. I know nothing about upgrading both, aside from wanting to do both things.
The r36 ultra is bigger. It won't fit in r36s grips. It won't fit in r36s cases. It won't fit in r36s docking charger displays.

This might end up being a long thread.

Its such a capable little device, built with the cheapest bits, just slapped together and kicked out the door.

I love it. Finding out the speakers it ships with cost like $0.08 just makes me love it more. And also want to upgrade all the speakers as tbh they all static af.

My current missions are,

Getting videos playing again after flashing with DARKOS. Is the kodi version a better bet? Streaming is of course a win, but kodi is not the highest recommendation here. Gimme alternative lol, where art tho VLC port?
A better brutal doom experience. BDlite doesn't have alt fire on weapons, and thats too brutal for me lol
Getting stardew valley working to sell my gf on the device. The audio books on the box didn't quite do it. Altho changing the startup logo to a funky witch and getting her the purple one were good starts.
Upgrading the speakers.
Getting some cheap extra cards that are "good enough" if not amazing.
get some multiple device multiplayer going
