Hey everyone,
I picked up an R36S clone (not sure of the exact variant – it has what looks like a single RAM chip/area on the board) and it’s been a headache from the start.

The good part: it charges fine, and I tested the battery by itself after disconnecting it and it holds a charge.

The bad part: it won’t boot. I get a completely black/blank screen with either a solid blue LED or no LED at all.
Since it was my first retro handheld I didn’t back up the original SD card (huge mistake, I know). I flashed ArkOS4Clones to a fresh card and tried like 5 different DTB/panel options through the selector. Still nothing – no boot logo, no nothing.
I’ve seen a ton of similar black screen posts, but most assume you still have the stock DTB files.

Does anyone have advice for a “lost DTB” situation on a single-RAM clone?
• Specific DTB files or clone types I should try?
• Better images/firmwares for these clones (dArkOS, etc.)?
• Any other troubleshooting steps I might be missing?
Any help would be massively appreciated – really don’t want this thing to be a brick already. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, first time posting.

I had some trouble doing a fresh install of ARKOS for this. I did however get dARKOSRE to run. In the boot folder there is no option with V06, so I went with V05. It runs okay with a couple of minor bugs.

You have to put the console into sleep mode after first launching the OS in order to have sound. Also, usb tethering with an Android tablet doesn’t seem to work. I was able to do this to update an image of the stock SD card (ArkOS 2.0). I’d have been happy with the stock card image, it just wouldn’t utilise the full 64GB of the SanDisk that I bought and I couldn’t successfully expand the partition.

Any ideas on how I can fix these issues? Anyone have one?

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this community. I’ve been working on some custom overlays for 640x480 handhelds because I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, so I decided to make my own.

I’m a bit nervous posting this since I know there’s a lot of expertise in this sub, but I’d really appreciate any feedback or suggestions you might have. I’ve personally tested these on my R36S, but since I don't have other devices, if anyone with other 640x480 handhelds could test them out and let me know how they look, I’d be really grateful.

I've also included some custom shader presets I worked on. For the systems where I didn't create a custom one, I’ve included suggestions on which standard RetroArch presets pair well with them. I’m still learning, so any tips on how I can improve these would be awesome. Thanks for your time and for checking this out!

Edit: Forgot to mention that this also includes overlays packs for LYNX, WonderSwan, WSC, GG(edit), NGP(edit), and Pico-8. Also, I’ve kept the existing overlays from the original creators in the repo to have everything in one place—full credit to them for their great work!

I was wondering if the PC version of Robbery Bob, Angry Birds, and Cut The Rope would would work on the R36S? Because these games was my childhood game. They already added Plants vs Zombies PC as a playable port, maybe they can do these games as well.
