which cdramas have the best cinematography?

for me, it’s these, in no particular order:

  1. my journey to you: the lighting, framing, and overall atmosphere in this drama were insane. every shot felt intentional and immersive without feeling overdone.

  2. fangs of fortune: one of the most visually stunning cdramas i’ve seen. the color grading, transitions, choreography, and set design all felt incredibly stylized in the best way.

  3. veil of shadows: this drama had such a hauntingly beautiful aesthetic. softer and more melancholic visually, but every frame still felt carefully crafted.

  4. the double: the visual storytelling here was so effective, especially during emotional and tense scenes. the costumes and set design elevated everything even more.

  5. pursuit of jade: the scenery, color palette, and composition made this one feel really immersive and elegant. it had a very distinct visual identity that i loved.

recommend me cdramas similar to guo jingming’s style

looking for cdramas that have a similar feel to my journey to you, fangs of fortune, and veil of shadows.

i really love the style and atmosphere of guo jingming’s dramas. they have this really distinctive dark, almost dreamlike feeling that i haven’t found very often in other cdramas. i especially liked the morally gray characters, underlying tension between everyone, beautiful cinematography/costuming, and the slightly eerie or tragic tone.

i’m mainly looking for dramas with strong tension and chemistry, emotionally intense or angsty relationships, secret identities or hidden motives, layered ensemble casts, mysterious or unsettling atmosphere, and visually striking cinematography. i especially love wuxia/xianxia with a darker edge.

i just started goodbye my princess and i am on episode 10. i went into the drama knowing >!it has a sad ending, just not any specifics.!<

what surprised me is how early it already started feeling like things are heading in that direction. i thought there would be more space before it gets like this, but it so much has happened already. >!like, the fl has already been through so much.!<

and the funny part is knowing it is only going to keep escalating from here. like this is barely the start of it, but there are more than 40 episodes left. i feel like i should be pacing myself, but it already feels too late for that.

also something that is slightly distracting is the lower production quality. it's really obvious during fight scenes. it doesn't bother me that much, i more so find it funny, but it does take me out of the story. i'm more used to recent cdramas with high production quality. it's crazy to see the changes cdramas have made in 7 years.

what are your thoughts on the drama? (spoiler-free 🙏)
