Historical drama without political stuff

So like half the people here, I'm here after finishing Pursuit of Jade!

I'm usually a modern cdrama girlie, but I really enjoyed pursuit of jade, except the crown/political stuff.

I'd love to watch a few more historical? Or costume? dramas which are light and have no political anything in it.

Thank you for taking the time to give me your recommendations :)

Any good village dramas?

I have iqiyi

I usually only see the village ones as shorts and want a more long form drama but im kinda getting bored of the palace dramas right now. And there isnt really tags i can sort through like when i read manhwa/hua I loved Pursuit of Jade and the dynamics of the village.

Im VERY partial to reincarnation/ transmigration, love systems/ powers and would be down with wuxia type stuff too (im new to that part tho) doesnt have to be romance but id imagine its hard to find without loll

Edit: i have literally only watched two big cdramas, PoJ and How Dare You so suuuper easy to recommend cuz im new to this

Netflix shows easier for someone who’s not good at Chinese?

I studied Chinese middle school through high school, but I’m rusty now. I have an extension that shows pinyin, English and hanzi, but they’re very fast so it’s hard to read. Any shows that might be easier to follow? TIA

Cdrama Recommendations (See below for specifics)

Hi everyone,

I’ve got a long weekend ahead of me…

Due to that, I’d like some Cdrama recommendations that fall into these particular categories:

1. Enemies to lovers RomCom
(emphasis on the Enemies to Lovers part… preferably modern/ not historical drama).

Some I’ve seen and liked to an extent:

- Meteor Garden
- A Love So Beautiful
- Put Your Head On My Shoulder

The last one I believe was probs my favorite of the three. I prefer women who aren’t damsels in distress, but it’s not exactly a dealbreaker if the enemies to lovers tension is good… but I think a part of that— has to do with the woman not being a complete pushover. That can be annoying in Cdramas.

2. Dark Thriller/ Mystery/ Horror-ish

Some examples that I’ve liked:

- The Bad Kids
- Love on the Turquoise Land (still watching)

Something with some great twists, turns, ominous vibe, shit you don’t see coming, etc. Adventure is great too— as long as it’s got some edge to it. Preferably non-historical as well, unless you’ve got a show you think is pretty dope. I know some of you will mention “The Long Night,” believe me— that’s on my radar.

looking for a cdrama where a woman keeps dying

Every time she dies, she tries to avoid that death in her next loop only to be killed by something else. Dumb accidents or traps set to kill her etc. I only saw a reel and couldn't find it's name.
Thank you in advance.

I dislike Eternal Love (aka Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms). Change my mind?

I just watched Episode 10 and I am screaming in frustration. Yet from what I see on this sub, many people like this show. Why???

What I hate: the ML and FL "missing" opportunities with each other, idk how else to phrase that. From research, I read that something tragic happens around ep 15 and the leads don't get back together again until ep 33. This does not work for me, maybe I am the problem???

I've seen PoJ, Love Between Fairy and Devil, Princess Royal, Love in the Clouds, The Double, and The Longest Promise. I prefer seeing the progression of couples, not the frustration I feel with Eternal Love. You could argue some of the dramas I mentioned have a bad separation, sure, but at least the couple is around each other enough in the beginning-ish (positive or negative scenes). I don't particularly care for the age gaps, and how it's totally normal for someone, that could be the equivalent of a grandma's age, hook up with a teen. I thought it was weird how the ML could watch his future lover grow up and just chill with that knowledge. I am just totally disturbed by this show - maybe due to my background, I hope someone else understands my frustration.

Otherwise, based on what I've said, any GE reccs are appreciated.

dramas with powerful music/OSTs??

I’m looking for dramas that have powerful/meaningful soundtracks!! I LOVED the OST from Moonlight Mystique, it gives me chills every time I rewatch. And I also loved the OST from Love Me Love My Voice, I listen to that a lot.

Any other dramas where the OST really stuck with you? Modern, historical, xianxia, I’m okay with any genre. Thanks! 🖤

As a note- if you rec a drama that has a sad/open ending pls let me know with a spoiler! I need to prepare myself for sad endings before I start it 😆

Shanghai based film/series set between 1900-1940

Hi everyone! I'm trying to do research into this time period of Shanghai and would like suggestions for a film or television series that has authentic portrayal. Especially of its fashion, housing, and day-to-day of both ordinary and not-so-ordinary people. Thank you in advance!

Please recommend me Xianxia drama where the ML is a bad boy/villain!

My 2 favorite Xianxia dramas are Till The End of The Moon and Love Between Fairy and Devil. I was literally obsessed with both MLs especially because they started as villains and were cold towards the FL, almost mean. I really like the overpowered, dominant, badass ML trope where the love between him and the FL is a rather slow burn. I'm really not into MLs that are soft and kind from the beginning.

I've seen some posts with the same requests, but they were rather old and I would really appreciate an updated recommendation list!

I've just started watching Ashes of Love as everyone else recommends it. But by the time I finish it I'll need more to watch! Thank you guys in advance ;_;

Suggest me some good romance

I’m looking for good mature romance cdramas with great chemistry. Mature doesn’t mean they have to be serious all the time. I don’t mind cold MLs but they still have to be expressive and not holding a stone cold face even when the circumstance demands otherwise. I’m basically looking for mature yet witty and sexy MLs to give me the feels (eg: Sang Yan/BJT and Gong Jun)I lose interest when FL acts too cute or damsel in distress every other episode.

Dramas I dropped
When i fly towards you coz they just seemed too young and cutesy)
Love is Sweet coz it just felt so fake.
Go Ahead: talented actors but they’re just not for me
Shine on me: same reason plus too many misunderstandings

My favourites so far are:
First Frost
The Best Thing
Rising with the wind (Gong Jun 📈📈📈)
Hidden Love
Lighter & Princess
Love between lines
Falling into you
Meet Yourself (slowwww burn but still good)
You are my secret
The Love you give me

I want a historical drama that will make me suffer

I’m looking for a historical drama that will emotionally destroy me.** **Something genuinely heartbreaking but still grounded, not too fantastical like Till the End of the Moon (which feels a bit too out there for me). Wuxia is welcome, but I’m trying to avoid gods, immortals, or anything heavily supernatural.

What should I watch next?

Been in a cdrama slump and even rewatched Crash Landing on You cause I was bored. Last cdrama I watched was PoJ which was really nice. Both historical and modern are ok for me.

Here's what I've seen and found EXCELLENT:
- Story of Kunning Palace - all time fav
- Love in the Clouds
- Love Between Fairy and Devil
- Pursuit of Jade - storyline wasn't great but the chemistry and aesthetic A++ and of course ZLH
- My Journey to You - horrible ending but I liked the journey
- Story of Yanxi Palace - classic

Here's what I've seen and thought were average/meh:
- Blossom
- The Best Thing - ZLH amazing, FL bland af. Storyline - uninspiring
- The First Frost - actually super engaging and tear-jerky but the premise took me out a bit - like in what world would someone pine after a girl who keeps rejecting them over and over after years?
- Generation to Generation - love the ML my god he's so hot but the FL was so annoying and the whole extended family - who gaf about them there were so many characters and none of them were interesting and I didn't care for any of them. Like all of them could go and die for all I care.
- The Double - nothing wrong with this drama it was entertaining but I just didn't feel attracted to either of the leads chemistry. I think knowing that the FL's like 15 years older than ML irl took me out a bit.

Dropped dramas:
- Prisoner of Beauty - I really don't get the hype with this one... it was OK I guess I could have continued but I was 20+ episodes in already and the last invasion I was just like ok whatever. Also LYN isn't cute imo. I like him as a personality but as a ML it's a bit cringe for me.
- Love like the Galaxy - I'm on episode 5 and I literally hate everyone in this drama except the FL. Her whole family sucks and I don't care for any of them? Like who gives a shit about this crazy grandma and aunt, they both in historonics all the time and so freaking dramatic like take a chill pill. Mom is toxic af and mean for no reason. Everyone else - salad with no dressing. I might give this another go but it's so slow and I'm like when will these annoying people go away?? In fact, I'd say that the first 5 episodes have made me actually angry lol. But maybe I should push through? I've seen so many good reviews that this is everyone's all time favorite drama and the chemistry is great. I do love a toxic ML too.
- Fated Hearts - Storyline is intriguing and has potential but I'm not attracted to the ML at all and I need to find the leads hot to continue lol. FL is also bland af. Literally has 1 expression and it's this: ._. Might give this another go as well just for the storyline.
- Princess Royal - why is ZLH's face so freaking white I can't with this
- How Dare You - I think this was fine but they kept talking about 2D paper people making me not care about the rest of the cast. Like ok I get it, stop emphasizing it.

God I can't wait for ZLH's new dramas this year :(
