Hallo zusammen!

Ich bin seit kurzem für das Masterstudium "Embedded Computing Systems" (auf Englisch) an der TU Wien angemeldet. Seit zwei Wochen habe ich alle Formalitäten gemacht, mein Beitrag bezahlt, habe Zugang zu TISS und bin jetzt quasi ein "echter" Student.

Jetzt versuche ich TISS zu verstehen und es ist ganz anders als mein System in Polen auf dem Bachelor. Wie ich sehe, die meisten Fächer gibt es noch gar nicht für das Semester 2026W. Um meine Anmeldung zu planen, muss ich auf historische Daten von den letzten Semestern schauen.

Während ich die Kurse gesucht habe, habe ich eine frustrierende Sache bemerkt, dass die meiste Fächer, die mich wirklich interessieren, sind auf Deutsch. Die englische Alternativen fokussieren sich sehr auf AI oder fast alles andere als "Embedded", was wirklich enttäuschend für ein "Embedded" Master ist.

Mein Deutsch Niveau ist B2.1 und um ehrlich zu sein, es überfordert mich ein bisschen, mit diesem Niveau auf Deutsch zu studieren. Vor allem, weil ich noch nie Kontakt mit technischem Deutsch hatte. Ich will natürlich mein Deutsch weiter entwickeln, aber ich weiß nicht, ob es Sinn macht, die Sprache direkt in schweren technischen Kursen zu lernen.

Deswegen habe ich ein paar Fragen an euch:

• Aus eurer Erfahrung: Ist das überhaupt machbar?
• Was für eine Einstellung haben die Professoren und andere Studenten für Ausländer?
• Wenn ich mich für einen Kurs anmelde und nach einem Monat denke ich, dass ich keine Chance habe, das zu schaffen oder gut mitzumachen... kann ich mich irgendwie nach der Deadline abmelden?
• Kann ich den Professor fragen, ob ich die Prüfung auf Englisch machen kann, obwohl die Vorlesung auf Deutsch ist?

Irgendwelche Tipps für eine Person mit Deutsch als Fremdsprache sind sehr willkommen. Danke im Voraus! :))

My girlfriend and I are driving from Vienna to the Austrian Alps in late August. It’ll be our very first time visiting the Alps during the summer. Until now, I've only ever been to the Alps in winter, though we do have summer hiking experience from lower mountains. I’ve never slept in a mountain hut before, but I have good spatial orientation and feel confident navigating in mountainous terrain. We are bringing bikes, camping gear, and full trekking equipment.

We want to split our trip into two parts:

1. Chill & Bikes: Staying at lakeside campsites, cycling, and doing easy day-hikes.
2. Multi-Day Hike: A 2-3 day trek with overnight stays in the mountains.

I’ve done some research, but I’m a bit overwhelmed and could use some local/expert advice.

My questions for you:

• Location: I’ve heard Salzkammergut (Attersee, Mondsee) and Zell am See / Kaprun are great beginner-friendly bases for combining lakes, bikes, and hiking. Do you agree, or do you recommend something else?
• Wild Camping vs. Huts: I know wild camping is strictly illegal in Austria. Should we risk a highly discreet, "Leave No Trace" stealth camp (we have a green tent), or is it smarter for beginners to just book an ÖAV/DAV mountain hut?
• Planning a 2-3 Day Hike: How do I plan a multi-day hike from scratch? Are there any specific blogs, apps, or ready-made routes you recommend (I already use Mapy.com/Bergfex)?
• Trail Recommendations: Any specific 2-3 day routes where we can experience some wilderness without immediately tackling 3000m exposed peaks?
• Campsites: Do we need to book lakeside campsites far in advance for late August, or is it usually fine to just show up with a car and a small tent?

EDIT: See my other post on r/Austria (https://www.reddit.com/r/Austria/s/KJPOwhDuFC). I think it's better to avoid the Austrian Alps as a beginner. Do you think the rules in Italy are just as strict? I really don't want to get fined or run into any major issues.

I'm starting my Master's in Embedded Computing Systems at TU Wien this upcoming semester. I'm really excited, but to be completely honest, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the university system. Figuring out TISS, course registrations, and how to actually put together a timetable is a bit confusing right now.

I was wondering if there are any good guides, wikis, or tutorials for newbies on how to navigate the TU Wien system efficiently? I'd also love to know if there are any introductory events, welcome days, or Fachschaft meetings before the semester officially starts that I should keep an eye out for.

Does anyone know if there's a WhatsApp, Telegram, or Discord group for people starting this major, or just for ECS students in general?

Finally, if anyone else here is in the same boat or just wants to connect, let me know! I'd be down to grab a coffee or a beer before the classes begin.
