Applying to SCU

So I’m an east coast student looking at SCU for college and I’m hearing kinda mixed things on reddit and I’m wondering, what is the social scene really like? Cause some people say there aren’t a lot of parties some say they’re out of control all the time. I can’t really tell the difference and I’m just wondering what it’s like social scene wise and just about the university in general, anything helps!

US National team

So I’ll start this off by saying I’m pretty new to rowing. I only started in the fall of 2025 but I’ve made great strides to become better at this sport and I truly believe that I’m becoming pretty good. I will say I only sweep and that is my main focus. But I was wondering if anybody had any info as to just spitball how hard joining the U19 US national team is. Just for reference rn I am 6:36 for my 2k but I have been dropping very quickly so I expect to be at 6:30 or lower by my next test and I’m also 5’11 200lbs. Please all feedback and advice is appreciated. I really want to see how far I can push myself.

Cutting weight

I’m a current junior rower who stands at about 5’11, 203lbs and I’m trying to do a weight cut but I’m having trouble. I’m trying to get down to 190lbs. The 203lbs is not just pure fat either, i have a good bit of muscle but I’m hunting sub 6:30 2k this summer and I think being a bit lighter will definitely help. Since it’s the summer I’m training atleast twice a day every day and have a hard time not snacking and eating a ton of food to be satiated. Anybody have any advice or tips that might stop me from eating so much?

Lifting as a rower

This is just a query I’ve had for a while, it seems like most coaches and even rowers themselves are against lifting and I don’t understand why.
I started rowing after moving from a sport where lifting was a big component so I love to lift. Now that summers here I lift every day while doing some extra steady state afterwards three times a week. But all my teammates tell me just to do ss with some hard erg pieces here and there. Just wondering if anybody can give some insight.
