2023 - Current Pilot 2026 Honda Pilot Elite Fire Incident After Dealership Service - Need Legal/Action Advice (San Diego, CA)

I am seeking urgent advice from this community regarding a severe incident with my 2026 Honda Pilot Elite.

The Background:

I purchased my 2026 Pilot Elite brand new on March 12, 2026. I chose this vehicle specifically for Honda’s reputation for safety and reliability.

The Incident:

On May 14, 2026, my vehicle caught fire shortly after receiving service at a local Honda dealership in San Diego, CA. I am convinced this was caused by gross negligence by the dealership’s technicians.

The Current Situation & Dealership Misconduct:

Following the incident, the dealership took it upon themselves to tamper with the scene, perform unauthorized repairs, and "clean up" the evidence of the fire before any insurance adjuster could inspect it—all without my consent or notification.

I have full video evidence of the fire incident. Despite this, dealership management is currently dodging responsibility and is aggressively pressuring me to pick up the vehicle immediately.

My Goal:

I refuse to accept a vehicle that was damaged by dealership negligence, especially after they have potentially compromised the safety integrity by attempting to hide evidence. I want to hold them accountable and protect my rights as a consumer.

Questions for the community:

  1. Given this scenario in California, what is the best way to escalate this to Honda Corporate (not just the dealership)?
  2. Has anyone dealt with dealership negligence leading to vehicle damage and 'cover-ups'?
  3. Should I involve a 'Lemon Law' attorney immediately? What are my best next steps to ensure I don't lose my leverage by picking the car up?

Any advice on how to handle this, especially regarding the destruction of evidence, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you."
