How to make connections in the following lamp?
I recently bought this lamp. Don't have an actual photo right now.
So there are 3 hanging lanterns with an Edison bulb in each of the lantern. For each bult there are 2 wires (marked in black). From the stem of the lantern there is a wire which had a socket at one end and 3 loops that needs to be connected to the bulb (in red). There are 3 loops for 3 bulbs. Now I just wanted to test how will this look and I just cut one loop into 2 parts and connected both the ends to both the ends of the bulb. Then I switched it on. I thought that I had made the connection correctly but to my surprise there was a spark in the switchboard and smoke started coming out of it. I quickly switched it off and disconnected. It had become really hot.
What did I do wrong? I thought I had completed the circuit but I guess I did something really stupid. Please help me here.
