Akylss - Colorful Underpaint

hey guys. since some people asked on my previous post, here's my version of Aklyss from Shadows and Scum. She(?) was my first try at this method and it one of my favorites of the army. I definitely phoned some areas in but that's okay. not everything has to be amazing display/comp perfect, as long as it looks cool

if you saw my last post, you'll notice that this one is the same method but an entirely different color scheme as my wyvern. That's because I get bored painting armies the same color lol. But it works, because I have an (insane) idea to have the three schemes(lava, magenta-green, and the not yet seen lime-turquoise) all represented on a Trik as its three bodies. Who knows if I can pull it off but hey it might be neat.

Colorfully underpainted Khymaera Wyvern

hey guys, recently finished this guy up. A while ago my buddy convinced me to split the trolls/khymaera starter set and I was stumped on how to go about painting them for the longest time. I, like many others, found the box art difficult to read and conceptualize what was going on with these crazy cyber dragon models. Differentiating what was flesh and what was metal made my head spin.

So I said screw it and, inspired by painters like Olthar and elminiturista, tried out this colorful, inverted color scheme. bright in the shadows, dark(kinda) in the highlights. I essentially ignored the individual details and simply focused on an overall vibe. i think it suits the faction better over trying to paint more traditionally.

in retrospect an ultra grimdark scheme would work with Khymaera as well, if not better with true metalics and lots of dark oil washes. They got lots of nooks and crannies that would jive with the style. Plus its not something ive seen before on the faction. Anyways, I hope you like it! I did the whole(A lie, I'm ashamed to say I'm only done with half) the army this way, so I could post some more if people are curious.
