I really must be missing something (asking about asexuality)

If I’m so horribly off base, I’m sorry. I’m trying to learn, cause I think my current assumptions might be flawed or something.

So, far as I’m aware, and if I’ve accurately interpreted everything I’ve seen and heard, asexuality is essentially feeling little to no sexual attraction. With that in mind, it has always confused me how people don’t understand it and how there are so many poor representations of being ace or aro.

I would think no one feels any form of attraction at ALL times in their life, and I would think people who don’t have a relationship or person they’re actively interested in would not feel it more than they do. So, in my mind, why is it such a hard thing to just, extend that to not be so temporary? And on the matter of representations as an example, wouldn’t it be easier to have a character not doing sexuality stuff?

But after watching some videos and such about asexual representation in media, it has me thinking about it again. Maybe, ironically with what I thought, I have asexuality wrong in some way. Or am I perfectly okay with my understanding and just don’t think about it the same way as those writers and directors? Or something else again?

Basically, I just want to know what I’m missing in the whole thing.
