DAE get mad when you find out a movie you liked was originally a book?

So I recently went to go see "Project Hail Mary" and I absolutely loved it. Going into it, I knew nothing about it. At the end of the movie, there was text that said something along the lines of "Based on the book by (whatever the author's name is). I got kinda mad seeing that.

Almost everytime there's a movie that was first a book, and I've come across someone who has both seen the movie and read the book, they say the book was better. However, I HATE reading books. I cannot stay focused, and I'd rather do household chores than read. But I hate knowing there is a superior version of the story I really liked that I will never get around to reading.

Second, and I know this is irrational, is that it ruins the, for lack of a better term, "exclusivity" of it all. The theater I saw "Project Hail Mary" in was tiny and tucked away in the corner of the theater complex. I hadn't seen or heard any advertising for the movie, either. I felt like I was part of this special group of people who got to see this wonderful film. Then I find out that lots of people already knew about the story long before the movie existed!

When I would tell people I knew that I saw a really great movie over the weekend, and they ask what it was, and I say, "Project Hail Mary," half the time they would say, "Oh I've been wanting to see that! The book was so good! Did you read it?" I know I shouldn't be bothered by it, but it I still am. Is anyone else like this?
