Over 100 species on less than 1/10th of an acre

It‘s plant sale season, so I decided to take inventory of all the species we have and their bloom times so I can fill in any gaps. I was shocked to realize we now have over 100 different native species on our small lot - compared to less than 10 that were here when we moved in ‘23! Pretty proud of our little habitat

  • Philadelphia Fleabane
  • Canada Anemone
  • Hairy Beardtongue
  • Big Bluestem and Wild Strawberry
  • Columbine
  • Woodland Stonecrop and Woodland Phlox
  • More stonecrop, Hay-scented Fern, and Royal Feen
  • MONARCH EGGS!!!!

Hoping to get some sound advice from the brain trust - we're removing over 60' of privet hedge this weekend (to be replaced with native shrubs and edibles), and I'm unsure what to do with the privet. We don't have a local yard waste collection site, and chopping/bagging all of it for pick-up feels like a lot.

I'm considering renting a woodchipper for the day and chipping up all the plants - this would make it easier to bag for yard waste pick-up, BUT could we also just use it as mulch/pathways? Privet is pretty hardy, but would it be able to root/sprout after being chipped? Thanks in advance for any feedback!
