AITA, or is this guy the Ahole for blocking me out from appropriately zipper merging?
So here's the picture. This is in the Iowa City area. There's about a half a mile stretch from one light to the other, and while waiting to turn left traffic is backed up through the intersection (another peeve for another day). It's clear there's an accident or something ahead and everyone is merging into the right lane, but they're doing so immediately and leaving the entire left lane up to the (accident) open for a half a mile, creating more backup than necessary. Being an educated individual, I no understand that a zipper merge is the correct and efficient move in this scenario to reduce the backup. So I turn into the left lane and start driving down the wide open lane to merge up closer to the police car. This guy intentionally blocks me from getting past him, for whatever justification his puny brain came up with. I gave him a courtesy honk and he still didn't budge. I'm not sure if it's a nation wide thing or an iowa thing because several years back this same exact road had construction and required a merge almost identical to this photo, but there was a giant sign from the city instructing drivers to merge, and STILL nobody did it. So...am I wrong for this?
