I think this is the least number of city-states I have ever seen, I was responsible for the majority, but the other Civs were also very intent on killing off city-states for whatever reason... I think must be because all 8 Civs were crammed into the homelands or something.
Victim of my own success - the number of ships I got from the antiquity age as Edward bankrupted me upon age transition XD
Only half way through the age and already a sizeable fleet with Edward :D And this is only the two main armies, there are other singular ships elsewhere.
Time for a new game! Edward + Carthage should work out well.
Time for a new game again, loving the Time Tested update thanks to the swap from legacy paths to triumphs. I must say, I did not mind the legacy paths in the past, but now it is just all the better in a sense. Still get the good of the legacy paths, minus the railroadiness.
I've swapped back to just playing Apex civilizations. The new time tested stuff is just too weird, I originally was super apprehensive about civ-swapping due to Humanity, but it is working really well for Civ7. Now I can't play without civ-swapping with each era lol.
But yeah. Unfortunately I can only choose relatively non-specific mementos for this playstyle this time round as have not played Edward before, but hoping to get some more naval-specific mementos soon for a next playthrough.
It's okay though, Quinquereme I should be super helpful in offsetting the additional gold maintenance to help build out a massive fleet of plunderers. :D
A Quick Guide to the Game, From a Lazy Person
I enjoy the game. I like having fun. But I am also lazy, and there are things that I just cannot be bothered to do.
So here's my guide to the game, from my perspective.
In terms of purchases, I bought no ads, because I cannot be bothered watching forced ads. Eventually I also bought contracts for my clan, but that's after quite a bit of success already. It was more because I felt bad for my clan mates than anything, cause I was not advertising my clan or anything like that.
PVP Raid is the core focus. The reason is simple - your progress is soft-locked by the maps you are on, as the maps dictate the rarity of the gears you can get. Yes you can get higher level gear otherwise, but realistically what makes the bigger difference is eventually replacing your gear with higher level gear. Thus this should always be what you aim to do.
Prestige as soon as you can. There are some debate whether you should finish bosses before you prestige, but I find this to not be necessary. None of the rewards from bossing, you cannot get from other sources, and so losing out on progress just to finish bossing is not worth it in my opinion and experience. Prestiging is how the massive spikes in power levels happen. I went from around 150k to 1 mil power level within 2 days of prestiging.
When you lose pvp raids constantly, swap to grinding sections. As far as I can tell, pvp raid difficulty is mapped to map level, so the easiest way is to just get a heck of a lot stronger. Often it just means getting a bunch of better gear from grinding sections, and suddenly you are back to being able to beat pvp raids. Gears really do make a big difference.
Can't be bothered with ranked. If you really want to, sure, but aside from pet food, time spent doing ranked can probably be better spent elsewhere - grinding sections, pvp raids, or just real life stuff.
Matching gears to hero 'main' stats is the easy way forward. Optimizing a character is great, for example the warrior does need some lifesteal. But it can also be time-consuming. The easy way is to just match gear stats to the hero's bonuses, in the order of: 1. gear of just the 'right' stats, 2. gear having one of the 'right' stats, 3. other gear.
Raid ads are the ones to watch. I cannot be bothered watching many optional ads, so I almost exclusively only watch raid ads to progress maps faster. Every once in a while I may watch a forging ad to insta-forge a relic gear, but that's about it. I don't want blacksmith upgrade ads. Sure, they can be good, but I can't be bothered. Plus, that time you spend on the blacksmith upgrade ad, you can spend just grinding sections themselves.
You don't need a strong clan to do well. Clan wars try to match clans of similar power levels, as far as have been the case for me. So a stronger clan just means all that more effort to win. With lower level clans, there's a good chance the other clan may be inactive, i.e. a free win.
You can spend lower rarity materials by mixing a large amount of them (like say 99) with a few amount of the higher rarity materials. In terms of probability, in the long term you'll get the same amount of rarity of gears, but it is nice to have a small chance of obtaining higher rarity gears.
That's it for now. Any questions, feel free to comment.
Recommended Event Selections
Howdy folks, see below the list of all events and my recommended selections (in order of the options). If there are multiple numbers separated by a comma, then that’s the priority in my opinion. Otherwise then both or all three options are the same.
The best option will always be either materials or actual gear, if not then the highest amount of gold. As far as I can tell, gear/materials are always of the highest rarity for the map you are currently at, or one level higher. Where there are two recommended options, almost always the first is a gear (or 100 materials) of the highest rarity of the current map, the second will be ten materials one level higher. So depending on your preferences, choose accordingly.

PSA: The gain in pvp raid depends on the active character’s stats
It is either 10% or 20% of a stat, depending on the stat. Accuracy for example, is 20%. So here for example, I put lizard as the active character, and thus when getting accuracy, I get 2.41k each time.
Why is that good? Well take my warrior for example, his accuracy is only 1.69k. A 2.41k gain in accuracy more than doubles his accuracy, allowing combos to hit better.
When building out teams for pvp raid, consider which one you’d want as your active character too. That way, you can greatly boost the two remaining characters and make them far more powerful.
My new favourite way to play is to randomly choose a leader + civ + mementos, but specific to a particular playstyle. Today, it is military. I think this combination is gonna work out super well. :D
reddit.comOkay I give up, what are the requirements for the Scholar position for Liu Biao?
Tried searching everywhere, no concrete information.
My favourite pasttime: adopting everyone in the faction :D
Chu-Wu war update: Managed to carve up a very good chunk of Wu territory, and gave quite a few territories to my vassals; Sun Ren is the Wu faction leader now, looks like it should be okay to make peace, finally.
When playing as Liu Biao, I do enjoy taking my time and keeping the peace and factions alive... but the Sun faction tend to be really powerful every time, so much so that I can't help but tear through their territory this playthrough >:D
I got lucky and was able to kill Sun Ce with one of those faction council thingies, then killed Lady Wu in a battle, and then finally Sun Quan in battle as well.
Gosh they have so much territory though, no wonder they become so strong later. I think I'll have to take a few more territories before I can make more permanent peace with the faction.
What to use lower tier materials tor? Spiking them with higher tier materials. :D
So I have been mixing 99 lower tier materials with 1 higher tier material.
The math over the long term is the same - that’s how probability works.
But!
The chances of obtaining different amounts of gears well, differ.
Over the long term, you have a 36.6% of obtaining nothing.
But! You have a 63.4% chance of obtaining at least 1 gear, including a 26.4% chance of obtaining two or more gear.
So it just depends on your risk profile.
But yeah. It is a use for lower tier materials, if you want to be more risky.
Whew, released my son from my faction a decade or so back, and now he leads the whole Han Empire wth
Where are the building scripts located for the Map Editor?
I am making a custom map, and for one of the cities I wanted to disable some buildings. However, it seems like it is not simple, there are preset options to choose from. Presumably they reside… somewhere, so I can duplicate and edit them if necessary.
But… where?
Steam, Windows btw.
Thank you!
My thoughts playing the time-tested update so far
The great:
- Triumphs. My original belief is that the legacy paths should have had variations to them, or expand out to new lines, but the triumph system works much better. Not only does it give boons to those who decide to focus on one path (the 'firsts'), but they are also flexible, allowing for civs to really develop differently, rather than being shoved into the same development template to try to hit the legacy outcomes.
The good:
- Syncretism. An interesting choice, and is fun. It does provide more variability to the game, and helps with the non-apex ages in a good way.
- UI changes. So far there are a lot of fixes that makes sense - the resource screen is so much more intuitive, for example.
The bad:
- Time-tested civs are kind weird. I played multiple games, and maybe Civ7 has already conditioned me, but it just feels really wrong seeing non-Anquity ages running around. I have ended up reverting to the original civ-selection method, i.e. apex-only civs. But I think over time as I get used to the changes more, probably a combination might be what I'd end up playing - starting with only antiquity civs in that era, then in the exploration age allowing for either to keep the current antiquity civ or change to an apex exploration age civ.
Just my thoughts so far.
I honestly think TW3K is the best game I have ever played. I am obsessed with it. I am so glad it runs well on my Surface Pro. Now I get to play this game wherever I go, even if it is on a plane. It surprisingly doesn't really drain the battery too. :O
Template appreciation: Anarchy
I gotta say, I really love Anarchy.
I do enjoy the other templates, but I kinda dislike the fact that the second town is always the same as the first. Well, at least with the templates I have tried. They are great for a 'standard' game, but I guess having played HOMM extensively, I fall into the same gameplay patterns again and again. Which is great to prep strats for PVP, and really, really optimizing specific factions, but I do really enjoy the 'discovery' nature of the game.
Of course, we are in EA, so one can't expect OE to have a full plethora of maps around, but Anarchy is a great filler - it is nice to not know what to expect. Hoping for there to be more Anarchy-type templates, one with more players for example. :D
