Best method to restain the wood on a mosin?

I have a beautiful mosin 91/30 and the only thing throwing it off is chipping from the stained finish on the stock, is there a safe way to restain a mosin stock or should I leave it how it is? I’m not worried about trying to remove history I bought it to shoot and enjoy.

My first mosin

Ignore the dogs showing in the pics but I just picked up my first mosin it’s a 1943 91/30 KO for 500 before tax, I need some advice on how to clean it it’s got slight rust dust in the barrel, but I used a brass barrel brush and got rid of it all, how do I maintain since a fine piece of work without ruining it?
