Taylor GA 114CE SEB (sunset blvd)

I went in to take a look at some of the new Gibson Hummingbird Special models because I really wanted to get that Ebony black one. When I played them, it sounded like I was playing an acoustic guitar that was in another room with the door closed.

Prior to this, I had always played all Martin and some of the old Made-in-Ohio Washburn guitars. My main go to was a MIM 000jre I really like to play live because it was a similar footprint to my Les Paul and the neck is a dream.

I played the Gibsons, I played a few Martins, and then I turned over to the 214 and 314 because they look so pretty. I thought they were pretty bright. A little brighter when I wanted.

I picked this thing up and couldn’t believe how nice the flat finish was. Was just close to what I was looking for with the Gibson. The neck was a dream, and the sparkly-deep cannon-like projection was impressive. I played for about 20 minutes with it and knew that this is the one.

Easily one of the most balanced guitar tones I’ve ever heard, and the pickup sounds amazing. Throw it through a dash of acoustic simulator and chorus to tame some of the rubber band piezo sound and it is incredible amplified, too.

I didn’t even realize this is one of their entry models. This punches so far above its weight, I would easily have paid 2x for something like this.

My only complaint is this guitar obviously needs the saddle sanded, (nut is dead on, relief is good, action is 3mm at 12) but talking to Taylor and some other people, it seems like they don’t ever want you to sand the saddle, they want you to go get shims for the neck. Oh well. Someday.

Anyway, I’d love to stay if you’ll have me!
