Need some help from the Reddit experts. I’ve been battling this for about 3 years now.

The yard was a mess of weeds when we bought it 3 years ago so it’s night and day from where it was but now my issue is that there just always seems to be a ton of dead grass and it’s thin.

I’ve done pre emergents and seeded. I used a dethatcher two falls ago on the lightest setting with the scarifier and it pulled up a ton and lots of moss. Did it again in the early summer last year after noticing a ton more dead grass. That obviously left it more bare in spots.

I through down more seed and soil especially along the drive way and it looked better. Still bad spots else where but trending better I thought especially when the snow thawed and the grass was nice and green but lo and behold I’m back in the same spot.

You can see what I mean from the pictures compared to the last pic which was taken in early April, when a Walmart employee took out my mailbox.

Any thoughts? Grubs? Fungus? Bad soil? Mowing to short? Any help is appreciated on where I should go from here.
