This is why you don't mow when it's wet....
Anyone for grass juice? It rained in the morning. Mowed a couple of hrs later as I have no time.... Messy! Going to stain my garage floor

Hello looking to purchase a new self propelled mower from Home Depot.
I narrowed it down to 3 options. I have close to an acre of mostly flat land in central Nj. Don’t have the $2-4k for a ride on tractor or interest of purchasing a used one.
Are these Dewalts really that bad? They have absolutely terrible reviews on Homedepot.com these Dewalts are essentially Craftsman, or Troy Bilts painted yellow, they are all manufactured from the same company MTD products.
I do like the Echo I just keep reading the engagement for the self propelled mechanism is awkward.
Checked out Lowes, I really like the Toro mowers, but I absolutely cannot stand the fact you have to register the product and wait for the rear discharge chute, or even the fact that a rear discharge was considered better than a true side discharge.
Dewalt 196cc 21” DW12ABP3RJ039 $549
Dewalt 163cc 21” 12AVP2R3739 $449
ECHO LM-2119SP $549
Let me know what you guys think.
Hey everyone. I'm posting to get some feedback or opinions on my lawn/yard adventure. I live in Southeastern Pennsylvania (zone 8). I just had a baby, and prior to having him, my dogs ruled the yard. Now, i want to have a nice yard so my son can enjoy when he starts running around. Eventually I want to put an above-ground pool, new shed, and maybe a seating/fire pit area. Before all of that I was contemplating planting a privacy screen all around (Emerald green arborvitae). I prompted chat gpt with showing me how my yard would look with a screen all around. I included the photos. I wanted a tight privacy screen, so I'd probably be planting them 24-30 inches apart. I calculated about 35-40 trees for the areas I wanted. I just want to know if I should go ahead with my idea, pros and cons of planting that many trees, future issues I might run into (neighbors complaining, future sale of the house etc).
Edit: additional info, I would be planting them myself with the help of family. I get direct sunlight all day. Also this photo was taken a few months ago. I'm already in the process of fixing the grass, it's doing well so far 5 weeks in to overseeding and fixing patches.
Hi folks. Im new to lawn (Canada) and backyard maintenance and need tips on how to get rid of the weeds between the concrete. Also how to maintain this long term. Thank you!
Northern Europe: I’m fighting a seemingly endless battle against dandelions, but finally I’ve found a weapon that I think is up for the fight. The gripping teeth on this Fiskars weed puller is really useful in getting up a lot of the dandelion roots as well. It’s extra impactful after rain, since the roots sit looser then. Highly recommended!
Should say IS NOW WORSE. North Alabama Bermuda yard here again. My already struggling yard may or may not be better now. I had my yard crew come out to do core aeration so I can hopefully seed and top dress with something. The pics have some before and after.
Due to the very heavy red clay - aeration is always hit or miss. I asked for a double pass because my yard has become very compacted.
Since I don’t keep my Bermuda real short, I’m thinking about throwing some fescue seed down behind the above flower beds. It’s mostly shade all day long. I can’t afford to put down zoysia sod. So it’s either live with a muddy yard that is eroding down the slope behind the fence or put some fescue down.
I know it’s not ideal - but no one has given me any real solid, decent ideas. I thought about mulch - but it’s a decent size area and I don’t want to remulch that much every year. It’ll get expensive.
I thought about throwing down some more Bermuda seed in the non shady areas as well to maybe thicken some things up but in reality - since the sun sets behind the house, the bulk of my backyard doesn’t get any more than four to five hours of direct sunlight.
If you have any thoughts let me know.
Can anybody help with how I’m messing up sharpening my blades? Pic is two days after cutting the grass with newly sharpened blades.
I’m using this file (https://a.co/d/051GsnNS) and a 20-30 degree angle. As I think about it, actual angle is probably around 40 degrees. Blade edge is shiny afterwards and feels like a butter knife, but obviously doesn’t cut cleanly. If appreciate any tips.
Hi guys, this is my lawn in the Netherlands. About 3 weeks ago I laid some fresh grass lods here. What do you think? I have the feeling the grass is not think enough and some lower grass is very wet and yellow/brown.
Really missing some routine over here. What do uou think guys, any advice?
One of my favorite lawns I maintain. Great customers, they said do it right and send me the bill. Been 4 years.
Bid this property weekly at $45 for the last two seasons. Decided to actually run the math down to the line item:
Drive time: 15 min each way, $0.18/min equipment burn + truck = $10
Cutting: 25 min on-site
Loaded labor 55 min: $23
Blade wear + trimmer line + mower depreciation per cut: $4
True cost: $37. I made $8. Before insurance, truck payment, phone, software, taxes. After all that I probably made nothing.
The point isn't the $45. The point is most of us are running on gut numbers and the gut doesn't account for the silent costs. Drive time, equipment wear, the overhead share. Run the actual numbers on your top three services and tell me you don't find one that's bleeding.
Posting from Waukesha WI. Curious if the math changes much in other markets.
I’m assuming this is (mostly) my grass going to seed. Which got me to wondering… when they made the rules, why did they make grass seedheads sterile and weed seedheads virulent? Seems not fair.
Dethatched and aerated by hand mid March.
Just the big box Scott's pre-emergent and the slow release fertilizer.
Water every other day. The northeast has been hit with an early heatwave this week. Watered a bit more daily while they're still fragile.
Just needed to show this off to someone other than my wife. Located just outside of Seattle.
Bought our house two years ago at 22 years old, and this was the state of the backyard at the time.. over the last two years this is where we currently stand. I’ve failed, learned from it, and found what works. First tried hand tilling and seed and got little results, then overseeding in the fall and still wasn’t happy. The next year I tore everything up entirely and started fresh. New soil and seed, keeping up with fertilizer and watering, and overseeding in the fall as well ass trimming a ton of trees to let some light in. Very happy with where it’s at right now. That said, I’ve never limited our 100lb dogs from using this yard so that made it very difficult but it can be done!
Grass was a uniform green at the beginning of the year. Now we have patches of dead grass all around and I have no clue how to fix this. First time maintaining my own lawn.
House is in metro PHX. Lawn was newly installed at the end of 2025 right before we bought the house in February. Sprinkler set up runs at 4 AM and 5 AM in two zones running at 15 minutes each time every day. I mow usually every 1-2 weeks.
We have occasional mushrooms sprout so the soil should be damp enough, right? Please tell me what I need to be doing, I’m going crazy trying to maintain this thing!
I’ve been shopping around for a good manual core aerator and have checked out the Landzie, Amick, and KD Stone Edge models. Just came across this new one that’s being offered and it seems like a much better price than the others.
Wondering if it’s actually a decent option. My yard is right around 5,000 square feet. Any real-world experience or thoughts on it?
Just finished seeding and fertilizing, went with a Lesco Sun/Shade mix. Gave the 8’x100’ rolls of straw a go and I was genuinely impressed.
