If you were 30 with ₹1.25L/month income and zero investments, what would you do for the next 10 years?

I’m 30 years old and based in Bengaluru. I earn ₹1.25 lakh per month after deductions, but I have absolutely zero savings or investments right now.
Throughout my 20s, I was pretty bad with money. I spent most of what I earned, frequently maxed out my credit cards, and got stuck in a cycle of using credit to manage expenses. Thankfully, I’ve finally paid off all my outstanding bills, but I’m essentially starting from scratch financially.
I don’t want to spend my 30s making the same mistakes. I want to build wealth, become financially secure, and develop good financial habits while I still have time on my side.

Here’s my current situation:

Age: 30

Monthly take-home salary: ₹1,25,000

Rent and living expenses: ₹40,000–₹50,000 per month

Travel: I visit my hometown every two months, so flights and related expenses add up.
Insurance: I have health insurance for my parents, costing around ₹50,000 annually.

Savings and investments: ₹0

Outstanding debt: ₹0 — I’ve cleared my credit card bills.

I don’t have a clear understanding of investing yet. I’ve heard about mutual funds, index funds, SIPs, PPF, FDs, and other investment options, but I don’t know what I should prioritise or how to get started.

What I need advice on:

How should I allocate my salary? Given my income and expenses, how much should I spend, save, and invest every month?
Emergency fund: How much should I build, where should I keep it, and should I focus on this before investing?
Starting investments: If you were in my position, what would you invest in first? How much should I start with, and which platforms or resources would you recommend?
Planning for the next 2–3 years: How should I prepare financially for potential major expenses, such as marriage, buying a car, or other life changes? How should I invest money I might need within this period?
Long-term wealth creation: How should I approach investing over the next 10–20 years? What would a sensible portfolio look like for someone starting at 30?
Insurance: Apart from my parents’ health insurance, what coverage should I consider for myself?
Breaking old habits: How do I make sure I never fall back into the credit card debt cycle? What systems or budgeting methods have worked for you?
A realistic roadmap: If you were starting from zero today, what would your first 12 months look like?
I’m not looking for get-rich-quick schemes, stock tips, or ways to double my money. I want to understand the basics properly and build a solid financial foundation.
I’m also open to book recommendations, YouTube channels, personal finance communities, and other resources that can help me become financially literate.
For those of you who started investing late or had to rebuild your finances from zero, what would you do differently if you could start again?
I’d really appreciate practical advice, including mistakes to avoid. I want to make the next decade of my financial life very different from the last one.
