Up 300 elo in catch cup. Meta who?
I’ll preface by saying that my goal in life is to find what meta pokemons hate, and ensure that I waste a ton of time meticulously creating teams that will achieve just that.
While this team certainly isn’t considered spicy, I can count on one hand the amount of Gyarados and Toedscruel I’ve seen in 100+ battles in the past week, while I have still yet to see a single Bronzong.
Elo gain was 2250 —> 2550
Team’s goal was to fast pressure anyone with a pulse with Gyarados, and deceive a lot of those who are (still) unaware of Bronzorg’s charged attacks (hello there Talonflame).
Moveset were standard PVPokes
Dragon Breath, Aqua Tail/Twister
Mud Slap, Warp/Seed Bomb
Confusion, Weather Ball (water)/Payback
The leads I saw the most were Talon, Tinkaton, Forrestress, Dunsparce and Licky.
Talon was obviously a safeswap by the opponent. If the swap didn’t include ice, my swap was most likely Toesdcruel to avoid matching Talons later on.
Forrestress, while not ideal, had the occasional bug bite, which allowed Gyarados to stay in. With Volt Switch, the goal was to immediately switch to Bronzong and try to farm it down while losing the shield advantage. Since their backline often consisted of ground/water, I actually had a fighting chance, even down in shields.
Tink was honestly a fun matchup, as almost 100% of them played into my hand of knowing that they would throw Gigaton Hammer on their 7th move, which always allowed me to switch Bronzong just in time to have almost 2 aqua tails loaded up with Gyarados while receiving minor damage for Bronzong.
Licky/Duns was an instant swap to Toedscruel which, surprisingly, led to a lot of teams leaving licky/duns in, in most cases because their backline also included tink & another neutral matchup.
Worst scenario was Fearow in the backline, but overall a very fun team that I just might try in regular Great League. Here’s to avoiding Electric leads!
