Should I Throw These Out?
Apologies abt the slight rant in advance!
Tbh I think I’m 99% sure that these are either beyond repair or not worth the money to try and fix.
I’m completely new to bikes and was offered two bikes from one of my coworkers as I mentioned I was thinking of getting a bike to commute to work but wasn’t bothered to pay such a hefty sum at once as I was saving for something else. I was also aware my work offers a cycle to work scheme but I was debating whether it’d be worth it as I’d be leaving my job soon anyways so I’d have to pay a lump sum anyways when I eventually leave.
Initially, my coworker heard that I was looking for a bike and asked me to send my address as they had two old bikes that they don’t use and could give them to me for free, and I did bc I knew if I didn’t send it then I’d probably forget to later. Two hours go by and I thought they hadn’t seen my text as it didn’t come up as read and they hadn’t replied. And tbh I thought we would begin discussing when to drop it off and talk a bit more abt the condition of the bikes but to my dismay my coworker had already dropped it off at my house while I was out after work. I didn’t get the chance to ask them to send any pictures of the bikes either as I wasn’t expecting them so soon. So my dad essentially opened the door to what looked like a random person dumping two bikes meant for the dump outside our doorstep!
When I got home my dad was a bit angry and he made it clear that it was insulting that my coworker thought they could drop the bikes off in their conditions. They didn’t even bother to clean them or anything but in my opinion I don’t think cleaning it would’ve made any difference! Once I saw them I thought that it’d probably be worth my money to go on the cycle to work scheme than try to revive these but I was wondering what others might think first so I decided to post this here.
I definitely should’ve asked for them to send the pictures of the bikes in advance so it’s my fault for not communicating that but I honestly didn’t think they’d send them mere hours after chatting.
Any estimations of costs and opinions would be greatly appreciated!
