I built an alternative to TV Time / CineTrak / Letterboxd (Stack: Django, Next.js, Expo)

Hi everyone! I'm an Italian developer and I wanted to share a project of mine that has been live in production for months, hoping it might be useful to others and to get feedback to keep improving it.

As a movie buff, I used apps like CineTrak for years until they imposed limits on lists. I tried other trackers too (TV Time, Letterboxd, IMDb), but for one reason or another, I couldn't find the perfect app for my needs. So, I built a personal alternative and decided to make it public and free for everyone.

It’s called StarFlicks. It has no ads, allows unlimited lists (Watchlist and Watched), advanced stats and filters, global community rankings, and personal charts automatically generated based on your own ratings. It also features the latest releases and full bilingual support (English and Italian).

On the technical side, I built it using Django (DRF) for the backend, Next.js for the web, and Expo for the Android app, all containerized with Docker. It's available on Web (Desktop), the Google Play Store, and as a PWA (which has the same layout and usability as the native Android app). The PWA is designed especially for iOS users, since I decided not to invest in an Apple Developer account for now, given that this is a free, non-profit project.

I just found out that TV Time is shutting down, so I'm currently working on implementing a feature to let users migrate their data from TV Time to StarFlicks via an import tool. The project is constantly updated, and new features are on the way.

I would really appreciate it if the Reddit community could give it a look. Any feedback and support would help me a ton in gaining visibility!
