Trying to do a sanity check before I book. I've been quoted anywhere from $200 to $700 for what's essentially the same small fine line tattoo (under 2 inches, single session, simple linework).
What did you pay recently and was the artist worth it? I don't want to pay for hype but I also don't want a discount shop result. Curious what the actual midpoint is in NYC right now.
My outdoor condenser died. Compressor is shot, tech says replacement is the only path forward. Indoor air handler is only 4 years old (we replaced it after a flood).
So I'm caught between two options.
Option 1: Replace the condenser only, match it to the existing 4 year old air handler. Quote: $4,200.
Option 2: Full air conditioner replacement, both condenser and air handler new. Quote: $8,400.
The Option 2 contractor's argument: matched systems work better, you reset the warranty clock on both, and refrigerant compatibility is guaranteed.
The Option 1 contractor's argument: your air handler is fine, no reason to throw away a 4 year old unit, the new condenser will pair fine with the existing coil after a careful matching exercise.
The math says Option 1 is the obvious choice. The contractor pitching Option 2 is making me second guess.
anyone done a condenser-only replacement and regretted it? Specifically, did the mismatch between old air handler and new condenser cause efficiency issues, repair frequency, or anything else I'm not thinking about?
