PvP Matchmaking needs some work

I started playing HoMM years ago with 3. We used to hotseat matches in my buddies basement with the 6 of us. When OE came out, picked it up with a couple friends. We played, I won, then tried a few matches vs ai and won too. When I first played i picked the option that I had played a HoMM game before and it started me at 1000 elo, cool.
My first match was against Turin. He had 1600 elo to my 1000. I lost and dropped elo. 2nd match was against a guy who was also 1600 elo in gold. I lost and was down to like 900 and in bronze. 3rd match was actually my level and I won! 4th match, actually my level and I won again but still haven't made it out of bronze. My next 3 matches are all against people with 1600+ elo in gold and it really makes me not want to continue playing ranked when I am forced to fight people with double my elo and 10x my matches under their belt. Why is the matchmaking so scuffed?
