Got accepted to UofA with a 95-ish Alberta average now sitting at a 97, but I’m also in IB and they want my IB transcript once it’s available.

IB is completely separate from my Alberta grades, and I’m honestly expecting my IB exam results to be pretty bad.

Has anyone been in this situation before? Can the U of A rescind an offer based on IB results even if your admission was based only on Alberta marks?

Also wondering if dropping IB as a whole would matter for my offer, or if it’s irrelevant since I was admitted with Alberta marks.

Just trying to figure out if I should actually be stressing about IB exams or not.

I’m trying to decide between staying in Edmonton for the University of Alberta (Chemical Engineering with a Petroleum focus) or going to the University of Toronto (Chemical Engineering).

My long-term goal is to move toward the corporate/finance side of the industry, ideally management, strategy, or even owning/operating a refinery one day. I’m also interested in potentially working in the U.S. (Texas/O&G hubs) after graduating.

UofA:

Strong reputation in petroleum engineering

Direct ties to Alberta’s oil & gas industry

I already live in Edmonton — family support, housing, car

I would graduate essentially debt-free

UofT:

Globally recognized name/brand

Closer to finance/business opportunities (Toronto)

New environment and network

I know UofA is a powerhouse for petroleum and offers a very practical path into the industry, but part of me feels like I might be “wasting” the effort it took to get into UofT if I don’t go.

At the same time, graduating debt-free from UofA seems like a huge advantage, especially if I want flexibility later (MBA, moving to the U.S., etc.).

I have until May 1st to decide, but I’d like to make a decision sooner.

For people in engineering, oil & gas, or finance, which path would you take and why?
