Grade 10 Alberta

So I’m a grade 9 student, going into grade 10 and all my grades are above 80% and enrolled in all 10-1s. I’ve seen people and heard from my teachers that math 9 to 10C is a huge jump? I do not know who to believe because I occasionally find math hard and easy although I’m currently sitting at a 84%. During the summer should I study math 10C just to be alright during the school year? To add I’ve been English schools my whole life until fourth grade, I was enrolled into a French school up to date. So I’m currently in a full francophone school transferring to an English high school. Many people told me to go to a French school but i decided on an English high school just for an easier transition to university (I’m also taking French IB to maintain my French as I do not speak it at home). I’m mostly scared for science and math as a lot of numbers may mess up my steps and science just as a lot of vocabulary and depth understanding. Social studies never interested me but this year curriculum is more about the gouvernent which is better than dates and back then. English, I might be fine in as I’m sitting at a 91% but I should up my vocabulary and understanding too which I might work on a textbook aswell this summer. I’m really scared for my future as I don’t know what to pursue and I have no idea but I know maybe somewhere in a science field? So overall should I study over the summer for a easier year or not worry. I would want to add I hate final exams with my whole heart, I believe they are meant for failure so no one can pass. They stress me out so much because I also do better on smaller unit exams then a whole units combined with no help at all as it’s basically just memorization. Thank you and I hope I get all the advice I need.

Am I cooked??

Hi guys, I am in grade 11 and want to do engineering in university, does anyone know what my chances are?

Math 30-1: 100

Chemistry 30: 96

Physics 20: 93

Math 31/Calculus: 95

English 20: probably 90

This all averages out to 94.8 and I am interested in UofC engineering and UofA engineering. Do I have any chance at getting early admission?

CHEM 30 IS LIT

Out of all the science courses I've taken throughout high school this has to be my favorite one. IMO it's the easiest, but maybe I'm only saying that because I do like a shit ton of questions because at some point it becomes kinda fun? Anyone else relate???

Senioritis

Recently, I have been feeling like a sack of rcoks, not wanting to do anything cus I have already got my uoft offer for electrical eng, got in with a 97.2 top 5 and now I feel like straight sludge. Marks have already been dropping like crazy. Although my conditional offer is above 80 for prerequiste courses and 85 overall, I still feel like crap for letting them drop so much

Has anyone ever gotten there uofa engineering offer revoked?

Hi I’m just wondering what the cutoff may be to getting ur offer revoked. I emailed the admissions team at uofa and they said the maximum is around a 10% drop but I’m still kinda sus cuz it seems really low compared to other universities.

Math 31 is harder than 30-1

Idk how so many people are saying that 30-1 is harder. Personally, I think it’s harder because of the workload. But conceptually, math 31 is wayyy harder.

And I’m saying this as someone who loves math (calc might be changing my mind though). Like I’m really trying to convince myself that it’s easier… but related rates… taking the derivative of logs… it makes me feel insane.

What are y’all’s thoughts/experiences?

Upgrading. Do people just accept late admission or wait a full year?

Hey I’m currently in grade 12 and planning to take a gap year and upgrade ELA 30-1 and Biology 30. I can’t do summer school because I have family plans in July to August, so that’s not an option.

So my plan would be half-year upgrading next year. I’m just going to do the online courses and assignments as early as I can so I can finish the upgrading and take the diploma earlier.

However, I know for a fact my application will be considered later than people who apply in October for early admission.

Do people usually just accept that and still do upgrading knowing their admission will be considered later in the cycle?

Or do most people just take the whole year, fully upgrade everything first, and then just apply next, next year instead so they can still be part of early admission?

Spares In Grade12

Hello guys, next yr for grade 12 I only need to take 2, 30-level classes for uni as I did 3, 30 levels in grade 11. I was gonna take Math 31 next year as well, bringing me to a total of 3 classes over 2 semesters. That would give me 2 spares in 1 semester and 3 in the other. I know 2 spares in a semester is allowed, but would 3 be allowed? I asked my counsellor, and they said its case by case basis. Would that make me a part-time student? Has anyone ever done this or knows someone who did this?

Am i cooked?

I hear a lot of my friends tell me that my schedule is really bad and i should drop my classes, but I don't think it's too bad. So i thought i might as well ask some 12th graders who've been through gr11. For context these are my relevant grade 10 classes and grades:

Math 10CAP 92%
Math 20AP 91%
Science 10AP 91%
LA 10-1 80%
Social 10-1 95%
Bio 20AP 93%

And this is my grade 11 schedule:
-Stats 35 AP (Block 0)
- Physics 20 AP
- Math 30 AP
- Astronomy 35
- Chemistry 20 AP

 •Second Semester•
 - Math 35 AP(Stats)
- Physics 30 AP
- Social 20 AP
- LA 20-1
 -Math 31AP

What do you think? (sorry for the font change idk how to fix it)

real talk

About a month ago, I just started feeling completely depressed and down because of all the financial stress my family is going through. Seeing my single mother so stressed out completely drained me too, to the point where it’s a massive struggle just to show up to school. I have so much anxiety every single day I'm there, and I literally just want to leave the second I walk in. My grades have dropped, and I feel like my teachers are constantly judging me for it. It’s so frustrating because I used to be a really good student, but the end of grade 12 has just been completely hectic. To make it worse, it feels like everyone else already got into university, and since I haven’t heard back from anywhere yet, my self-esteem is totally gone. I have zero excitement for school anymore. It’s just become this daily battle of dreading what teachers will say and being anxious about learning. I even skipped two weeks of math and I’m honestly terrified to go back, but I know I have to force myself. If my past self saw me right now, they’d probably judge me so hard. I just don't feel like I’m the strongest or best at handling this stuff.

I honestly envy the people who can keep going strong no matter what life throws at them. I really hope I can get myself back on track soon too. But I genuinely am proud of them, and I wish everyone the absolute best of luck

Deathly afraid to look at grades

I don’t know if anyone has advice for this but the thought of opening my grade book makes me physically ill.

The thought of going to school the next day as well sends me into a bit of a panic. I feel judged although that makes no sense.

For a bit of context I have a chronic illness and lately I’ve just given up because everything hurts. I feel visible disappointment from others, but I literally can’t keep going. I just feel stuck.

Anyone have advice on this?

I think I’m cooked🥲

I’m mature student and I have applied to UofC engineering. Below are my grade so far. I’m on the waitlist but I think I may not made it. Does anyone have the same situation but finally got accepted?

Upgrading courses:
Physic 30: 88
ELA 30-1: 87

High school courses:
Math 31: 95
Math 30-1: 94
Chemistry 30: 89

I didn’t applied anything else due to some personal and family issue so UofC is my only choice.

Challenging English 30-1 and Science 30 Diplomas

Hello,

I’m currently registered for diplomas for English 30-1 and Science 30. I got withdrawn in the course, so I don’t have the course material or I can’t do any work anymore. I’m considered a mature student which means the whole diploma can be my whole course mark without actually taking the course. What are some resources I can use to get over at least 75% realistically? I’m just so desperate right now. Thanks.

Am I cooked? Grade 12 & Early Admissions💀

Hey everyone,

Just looking to get some perspective because I’ve been seeing a lot of similar posts lately and it’s lowkey getting to my head. I’m planning on applying for early admissions to Engineering at UofC and UofA in the fall, but I’m incredibly stressed that I'll get rejected, and then my actual Grade 12 course load will just tank my average even more.

Here are my Grade 11 marks/averages so far:

• Math 20-1: 96% (tentative)

• ELA 20-1: 93%

• Chemistry 20: 89%

• Physics 20: 87%

• Computer Science 20: 91%

Average: 91.2%

Since it's my last year, I really wanted to push myself as hard as possible, but now I'm worried I'm being overly ambitious, which, honestly, is a predicament I tend to find myself in quite often.

Here is what my Grade 12 schedule is looking like:

• Math 30-1 / 31 AP

• Chemistry 30 AP

• Chemistry 35

• Physics 30

• Computer Science 30

• ELA 30-1

• Social Studies 30-2

My main worry is that if I don't get in through early admissions based on my Grade 11 marks, trying to maintain a competitive average with this Grade 12 workload is going to be brutal.

Be honest, am I overthinking this or am I cooked? Do I actually have a solid shot at early admission and is this schedule going to ruin me if it comes down to regular admissions?

Appreciate any advice or reality checks. Thanks!

chem 30 or science 30?

I’m in grade 11 currently taking chem 30 and my mark is not where i want it to be (77) for me to apply for nursing in the fall. I was thinking of retaking it, but after looking online at admission requirements for schools such as mru and uofc science 30 is accepted as well. Is science 30 easier than chem 30 and should I take it instead of retaking chem 30?

admission avgs

how do admission averages work for without math 31 and with math 31?
I am looking at engineering in particular, and it shows that the average for u of c is substantially higher without math 31.

I really dont know how this works, and sorry if I sound stupid

lets say I apply in grade 12 next year,

does this mean that if i apply with my grade 11 grades they take the higher average,

or would it be better to assume the lower competitive average if the university knows I am taking math 31 the following semester of grade 12

What do I do?

I'm in grade 11 taking math 30-2 online with the goals of getting into nursing but I feel like I'm not really learning. I understand the concepts on a basic level but get like 50s (rn my mark is a 59 yikes). I know I'll have to definitely retake it to get competitive for nursing but I'm unsure if I should take it online either golden hills or in person.

I did math 20-1 in person and even though I struggled I felt like it was way better to learn yk? Since math is my worst subject and I still got support vs here I'm basically teaching myself. But I'm worried about getting a good mark 90+) for nursing programs. I've seen that nursing math isn't too crazy and a lot of it just calculations but I want to make sure I'm really understanding it yk?
