Grade 12 in Alberta — chances for a BSc Psychology (pre-med / pre-dent) at U of A or MacEwan?
Hey, I’m going into Grade 12 in Alberta (Class of 2027) and want a realistic read on my admission chances for a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the U of A and MacEwan. End goal is med school or dentistry, so I’m treating this as a pre-med/pre-dent track.
Averages:
• Overall average: ~86.6%
• 30-level admission average tracking ~88% so far (2 of 5 courses done)
30-level marks so far (what admission is based on):
• Chem 30 – 92
• Math 30-1 – 84 (took it in summer school to get ahead; diploma pending)
Earlier marks for context:
• French 20-1 – 89
• Bio 20-1 – 86
• English 20-1 – 82
• Math 20-1 – 80
Grade 12 schedule:
• Sem 1: English 30-1, Physics 20, Social 30-1, Math 30-1
• Sem 2: Bio 30, Math 31, Physics 30, French 30
My five 30-level courses for admission will be English 30-1, Math 30-1, Bio 30, Chem 30, and Physics 30.
Given these marks, how competitive am I for BSc Psychology at each school? And does Psychology make sense as a pre-med/pre-dent degree, or should I look at Bio Sciences instead to line up better with med/dental prerequisites? Thanks!
