I am a part of the LDS church. most people call me a Mormon. I recently had a YouTube video pop up on my recommended and it was called something like “the cult of Mormonism” I keep getting more sad everyday that people hate me for my religion and I didn’t even do anything. I’m just gonna paste the comment I made on that video: “Dude I don’t understand any of this. As a member, literally 90% of this is just not taught and a lot is factually incorrect. Soaking and ATMing are against what we believe, we believe that touching another persons private areas or vice versa is bad, so how does this make sense? It’s against our religion, yet you say it isn’t? It’s a made up thjng. I’m not saying some Mormons don’t do it, I’m saying it’s against our beliefs. And the endless sex thing? I have never heard of that and that makes no sense. No we don’t believe in that. I don’t believe we were turned into native Americans? And the definition of being a Christian is believing in Jesus Christ? So how am I not a Christian? And no God wasn’t a man on another planet? I’m a pretty normal guy and I hang out with plenty of people who aren’t Mormon and I’ve never tried to get them to come to church or read the Book of Mormon, I can tell they aren’t interested so I just respect their wishes I guess. And 99% of the time I hang out with friends that are Mormon we just talk and hang out and it’s not like we’re discussing church stuff. And no, it’s not “not allowed” to look up church history on websites that aren’t theirs, and nobody has ever gotten mad at me for questioning it. Which I have. I don’t likely blindly following things and yes, there is more than questionable background info out there. But right now, in this day and age, I believe everybody is equal, everybody is a person who gets to make their own choices, whether that be joining the church, joining a different religion, or none at all. I have met good people through the church. And half of this information given is “it has been thought” or “depending on your source” so where’s the real evidence? The other day I got handed an anti-Mormon newspaper and it said we believed that there are people living on the moon who are perfect beings… yeah right that’s crazy and untrue. We have a lot of similarities to other Christian’s. I know this comment is either going to be ignored or hated on, and that’s fine. You can think what you want. I believe that god and Jesus are real, and that I should strive to be a good person and treat everybody equally. Yes I don’t drink alcohol, smoke or do drugs. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Yes I believe in waiting until marriage, I don’t see anything wrong with that either. And I’ll marry someone who is a good person that I can have a healthy relationship with and we can respect each other, whether she is religious or not. And the thing about us hating water? What? We literally get baptized in water. This video contradicts itself in many ways. I’m just sad that I can’t believe in something without people hating me for doing nothing.” ok there’s the comment. I totally believe in people being entitled to believing whatever they would like, even if I disagree with it. Is it just my religion tbh at gets all this made up stuff made up about it like us “thinking water is evil and being afraid of it” and us “believing that there are moon-people living up in space right now on the moon” or does every religion get this kind of hate? and to what degree? and despite what everyone says, it is honestly one of the most free religions, I have never been pressured to do anything and have been allowed to come and go as I please, no worries if you aren’t doing every little thing right, we believe that just doing your best or what you think you should/can is good. It’s depressing and making me sad that I don’t even feel safe sometimes or comfortable sharing what I believe in when I am asked. the USA has freedom of religion, why can’t others if not respect it (which isn’t required, its your choice) but at least ignore it if anything? The kindergarten saying “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” somewhat applies here. I understand people have freedom of speech as well. We are all people. Why can’t we act like it?
