So now my question is what should I put in my pies to get the best bang for my buck.

So I've got a nice rammed earth home, giant garden, and a decent stock of tin and copper. What are my next steps? Most of my garden is grain but I used every seed I have. I've been having fun mining but I'm wondering beyond food preservation for winter what should I do next.
So I am still relatively new to the game and there are so many things to learn. Yesterday I learned that digging a 5x5x3 pit you can trap animals passively. I finally have meat to eat :)
I got myself enough tin to make an anvil and a couple tools but now I can't find anything. Originally I found surface tin and dug down. I been using the prospector's pick but I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I dig down till I get to rock then go at least 3 beyond that. Then I dig in 2 opposite directions and hit this directions and the block in front of me. Says decent amount found with 1.3% but I can't find it anywhere. What am I doing wrong
I know there are "native" tin ores on the surface but is there a better way to find tin? I've found a few areas for copper and will be firmly in the copper age today.
Besides the obvious of utilizing the help menus what do you think is the most overlooked feature in vintage story?
Ok guys what food are you eating? I know there's better than berries and cattails. I'm starting a new world in a few hours (friggin work getting in the way of my gaming) as I died and lost my equipment in my old world and as this will be only my second world I figure I'll take all I learned the first time and start fresh. That said I'm wondering what good food recipes are out there. Anyone wanna hook me up
Edit specific recipes are welcome I'm super new
Besides the obvious of use "H" as often as needed what is the the #1 tip you would offer to a new player
