What specific species do you think Gary is?

i would say this is my most embarrassing post on this platform but i just couldnt get it off of my mind, what species do you think Gary from zootopia is? To me atleast, he seems to have the scale formation and head shape of an african bush viper (atheris), but his coloration obviously most closely resembles the blue insularis, an entirely different viper from a continent away. I dont think they ever explicitly state what species he is but i just wanted to ask this to other people in the reptile community and see what the majority thinks he is

petco “desk pet” tarantula abuse

so, petco has now begun selling “desk pets.” basically animals that are known for being low maintenance in the hobby(s), like Pac-Man frogs, jumping spiders and tarantulas in small plastic containers and marketing them as if they were toys instead of living beings. The packaging does mention that they are temporary enclosures and not meant to be permanent, but it deeply saddens me to see that these poor animals have NO HIDES as well as NO WATER DISH??? Those are literally the two most basic and important parts of tarantula care and they couldn’t even provide them with that? These poor babies are forced to spend their early lives in a small box with nothing but dirt. Petco has been tasked with taking care of quite possibly the easiest pet there is to take care of and they couldn’t even provide something so simple as a water bowl for them. Enough corporate slop and more genuine loving care.

▲ 12 r/birds

Around a year ago I found a young little bird (do not know the species unfortunately) on the grass beside a large tree. Normally I would have left it alone as per the standard but because it obviously seems too young and weak to start roaming around by itself (it wasn’t even able to walk), so I gently picked it up and looked into the branches of the tree for any nest it fell from.

I found what appeared to be its mother up in the trees and seemingly inspecting me. I could not find the nest and I didn’t exactly feel comfortable climbing high up (plus it was in someone’s front yard and it’d be awkward to explain to her why a random guy was climbing up her tree) so I put in a small ledge not too far from the ground and created a makeshift fence to prevent it from falling down and in hopes that the mother would potentially tend to it there or somehow guide it up the tree? (I wasn’t that much a bird expert at this time).

I checked back on the chick about an hour later only to find it gone and nowhere nearby. I just wanted to ask the real experts about their thoughts and advice as to if I could’ve done things differently or if I did my best for the moment. I’m sorry if I inadvertently caused this little baby to get eaten by a cat :(
