Anyone have experience using one of these services? Outcomes? Got a solicitation from Ownwell to take on (another) appeal.

We’ve appealed our property tax to no avail. It’s higher than all our abutters even tho it’s an older smaller property. It’s higher than homes in our area that are bigger, newer, with amenities like HOA with pool, tennis courts, snow removal, groundskeeping. It’s just weird. We are at about 13k/yr while these bigger newer homes in HOA are at 8-9k/yr.

We took our last appeal as far as we could and had zoom session with the city’s “mediator”. We presented loads of data and comps and got granular on their formulas and asked them to explain why our property is taxed so much higher. Useless dead end.

Ownwell takes a third of the tax reduction amount if you get one. In our case possibly worth it. Anyone using these services?

My mom passed last year at 98, frail but sharp to the end. I really miss her. Cleaning out her closet, I found this gorgeous vintage 1971 cocktail dress that she wore maybe twice. Before she died she insisted I try it on for her and that I keep it. She said, get some big hoop earrings and some platform shoes and rock it. 😄It’s in absolutely *perfect* condition. She made it. She sewed it herself from a McCalls pattern. She didn’t do a lot of sewing but got into it for a couple years and was good at it. It’s truly a retro stunner! It’s a wild paisley print with kelly green, lime green, and white. Floor length, high side slits, sleeveless and mock turtle neck. It screams 1970 vintage fashion all the way and I love it! She looked gorgeous in it back when, in the era of cocktail parties. My parents hosted many and dressed up to go to them too … this in an upper middle class neighborhood. That was the era.

I’m too old for it, and not as slim as I should be to wear it and I have no where to wear it anyway. I don’t know whether to get over it and wear it somewhere (Halloween?), e bay it or good will. It’s kind of a work of art and a piece of history. Ideas… ? My son says I should Wear it to his wedding 😄which would be certain to piss off any bride and I would never ever do that.

UPDATE … thank you for all these amazing ideas …and kind words too. I love the “wear the dress” party idea! Maybe we can start a new trend on that 😀And all of the ideas are great and helpful. I will post a pic as soon as I figure out how to edit that in. If not I’ll put it in a new post. If I can find the pattern I’ll share that too. Thanks!!!!
