Scooter high fuel consumption? 5l/100km (47 mpg)
Recently bought a 2017 Peugeot Kisbee 50cc 2 stroke. In the 400km i've done it used 20 liters of gas which seems excessive to me. It has 11k km and as far as i can tell the drive belt has not been replaced, the screws on the cover are painted and i could not get them open without stripping them. I can't check the spark plug yet as my key is too small.
When i first got it it had been sitting for a month in a garage and took some 20 kicks to start. But after that it started fine even cold the next day and has been starting great on both kickstarter and electric. Washed it recently with a powerwasher and it started a bit rough, then after sitting for a week it started very hard like when i bought it, but then after it has been starting great daily.
The auto choke seems to work fine, on cold starts it revs higher and the wheel spins for about 30 seconds then drops down and runs fine. The clutch seems to grab very suddenly, if you want to move slowly you need to rev the engine slowly for 3 seconds until the clutch grabs, but this is my first scooter so not sure if that is a problem. I opened the airbox and there was water in it, but the filter was very clean and oiled. Someone stripped the threads on half the screws and it wouldn't seal. I covered it with some duct tape and it has been sitting covered so no water gets in.
It runs great and it has a good power, i can leave first at the stop light and climb hills. I am pretty sure it has not been messed with as it caps at 50 km/h. But even driving as economically as possible i still get that consumption. I opened it up and the oil tank seems to be very slowly leaking on top of the air box, getting all over the carb and on the bottom of the scooter.
The scooter was dropped previously on the right side, the exhaust cover, brake lever and fairing are scratched. I checked and the brakes don't drag and the wheels spin freely. There is some smoke on start up but it goes away, some smoke while running but overall pretty normal.
What could be wrong with it? Is this fuel consumption actually normal? From what i've seen online from user reports it is pretty excessive and it does not change with driving habits. I can pin the throttle non stop and ride tens of km at top speed or go as economically as possible and the fuel consumption barely fluctuates from 4.8-5.2. Any tips would be appreciated.
