I bought a scootie-patootie and now I need all the things. *EXCITED!*

Hi! I posted a few weeks ago that I was looking to get a scooter and I pulled the trigger on this cutie here. Please excuse my scattered thoughts, I'm very excited and I don't know where to start. I don't have a lot of scooter/motorcycle enthusiasts in my life to ask about this stuff.

I'd like to be very hands-on with maintenance and repairs, etc. What are the must-have tools? I imagine a socket wrench set is a priority. Anything else?

Is there a list of things I should service now that she's mine?

Does anyone recommend any accoutrements?

I have purchased a full face helmet and I'm currently looking for gloves and a jacket. Should I be thinking about anything else in terms of gear?

Tyvm!

Moped riding to school (Dorchester Road, SC Mainly)

Hello everyone,
First time posting but have known reddit for years.

I am looking at getting a moped to drive to school because of the amazing fuel efficiency that it has.

I wanted to buy a 125cc/150cc but I cant get a Class M license for 6 months and that is not really feasible for me as I would like to start driving a moped in August when school starts.

I have been looking since then for a 50cc because I can already drive that but regardless I am going to get my Class M permit either way which I should have done months ago but only recently did I spike a interest in mopeds.

I also dont really want to spend too much money on a 50cc moped as I know those are slow and would be looking into a bigger one 125cc or 150cc a few months after I get my Class M license but that is not up to me as my parents are paying for it.

MY CONCERN

Due to my location I have about 20 miles to go on Dorchester Road for my commute to my High School and that is really concerning for me due to the people driving and the speed limit of 50 mph. Has anybody ever rode a 50cc moped on Dorchester Road and if so is it bad enough that its too risky or should I wait to get my Class M and then buy a bigger cc moped. The only thing with that as stated previously is that then I could only ride it for the last half of my academic year which is okay with me.

For refernce I have a honda civic that gets 20-25 mpg so a moped that does at minimum 70mpg is wonderful.

Sorry if I did anything wrong with my post this is my first time posting ever.

Anything helps thank you so much!

Is she totaled?

So I was in an accident on Friday, luckily I got away pretty good, but I think my Hexagon is totaled. It's a 1999 Hexagon GT 250 with 52kkm and I bought it last year in August for 680€ and put in about 100€ in repairs. The front plastics are cracked, the handlebar is most likely bent or pushed out of position, the tachometer is pushed inwards, the fuel filler flap can't close anymore and much more. From what I can see it's totaled and not worth repairing.

ways to reduce carbon emissions on a scooter/moped? i ride a 2003 Zuma (50) 2-stroke

besides driving slower and taking longer to accelerate, how can i ride without so much smoke? sometimes i have to hold the throttle to start the thing after turning it on n off and when i do it lets up a lot of smoke and i dont wanna gas the critters and people nearby with smelly 2-stroke, that and its awful for the air compared to an electric

Scooter high fuel consumption? 5l/100km (47 mpg)

Recently bought a 2017 Peugeot Kisbee 50cc 2 stroke. In the 400km i've done it used 20 liters of gas which seems excessive to me. It has 11k km and as far as i can tell the drive belt has not been replaced, the screws on the cover are painted and i could not get them open without stripping them. I can't check the spark plug yet as my key is too small.

When i first got it it had been sitting for a month in a garage and took some 20 kicks to start. But after that it started fine even cold the next day and has been starting great on both kickstarter and electric. Washed it recently with a powerwasher and it started a bit rough, then after sitting for a week it started very hard like when i bought it, but then after it has been starting great daily.

The auto choke seems to work fine, on cold starts it revs higher and the wheel spins for about 30 seconds then drops down and runs fine. The clutch seems to grab very suddenly, if you want to move slowly you need to rev the engine slowly for 3 seconds until the clutch grabs, but this is my first scooter so not sure if that is a problem. I opened the airbox and there was water in it, but the filter was very clean and oiled. Someone stripped the threads on half the screws and it wouldn't seal. I covered it with some duct tape and it has been sitting covered so no water gets in.

It runs great and it has a good power, i can leave first at the stop light and climb hills. I am pretty sure it has not been messed with as it caps at 50 km/h. But even driving as economically as possible i still get that consumption. I opened it up and the oil tank seems to be very slowly leaking on top of the air box, getting all over the carb and on the bottom of the scooter.

The scooter was dropped previously on the right side, the exhaust cover, brake lever and fairing are scratched. I checked and the brakes don't drag and the wheels spin freely. There is some smoke on start up but it goes away, some smoke while running but overall pretty normal.

What could be wrong with it? Is this fuel consumption actually normal? From what i've seen online from user reports it is pretty excessive and it does not change with driving habits. I can pin the throttle non stop and ride tens of km at top speed or go as economically as possible and the fuel consumption barely fluctuates from 4.8-5.2. Any tips would be appreciated.

Yamaha Zuma 50F cooling issue?

I've never had a problem before, but just recently during a very hot spell, my Zuma 50F has started to show the overheating light. The weather has since cooled down, but it still overheats after semi-long rides. I've tried changing the coolant to no avail, and I've also tried using the air bleeder screw (maybe I'm doing it wrong?).

The radiator does seem to take a really long time to actually get hot, but do the water pumps really go out on these? Could it be the temp sensor? I don't think the sensor has failed completely, because it does go away after I let it cool down for a while. Then when I ride it some more it'll come back on. I'm kind of stumped.

I looked everywhere for a video of installing a Carplay screen on my scooter and didn't find one so I made my own.

Chigee AIO-6 Max on a 2022 Suzuki Burgman 400 Maxi Scooter

I like it so far. Having front and rear cameras recording at all times when I ride is a great feature. I have a Cardo headset in my helmet and can control the what music I listen to with the screen mounted to the scooter. No more Quadlock and my phone on the handlebars for me.

Back on the road after 20 years.

First bike at 15. Then several bikes up until 21 when u was hit by a car. Told the gf at the time who I married I wont ride again. Same girl. 20 years later. Kids are pre teens and ive satisfied my desire on two wheels with modded ebikes but the laws where I am have made it so the better idea is to juat get a bike able to be on the road. She felt better with me not getting a big bike and I also have space issues in my garage. I settled on a Honda pcx 160. Its a blast and being auto is so nice. Im in love with it and very happy. Of course id like to move up one day and maybe this is the stepping stone for her to accept it again. Meanwhile im having fun. Ask any questions about the model if u have any.

Storage options on Kymco Agility

I just got my first scooter, a brand new Kymco Agility 50cc (that’s all I needed for my primary use, to get to work not that far away), but I’m wondering what folks use for carrying things like groceries, library books, etc. I know I’ve seen scoots with milk crates strapped to them…but I’d like something that looks better & more stable. I added a pic of the scoot’s back end with the seat flipped up to show what kind of space I’m dealing with (although if it’s large, it needs to be removable since that’s where the gas tank is)

Adv 350 flooded

Hi all,

There's been a terrible rain event and my adv flooded in its parking position (which is out of my sight). It was covered so nothing happened on upper half but rain went up almost to the half height people said. Before turning it on I've cleaned lots of dirt that flood brought and stuck on the tires and the body parts. Then I turned it on but at first, rear wheel didn't spin freely as I think it should. Then I gave a little throttle, it responded. Now in waiting mode wheel turns very slowly as you see in the video. I was afraid to give more throttle in case I do some damage to the bike. I turned it off and wait for monday to come so I can call a shop but it also needs a proper cleaning before too long...

I'd like to have someone's opinion.

Thanks.

Tire change

I have a 2002 Yamaha vino and need to put tires on it. The rear developed a bulge. Both front and rear appear to be original to the scooter (DOT codes from 2001!)
I’m going to change them myself - is there anything I should be aware of before tearing into it? I’ve never changed a scooter tire before.

any tips for some more speed?

I have a 05 Honda metro with 9k miles I just got running, it rides pretty well but starts to bog at 30mph any tips to get a bit more speed out of it? Parts I’ve replaced on it - fuel pump, fuel filter, cleaned fuel tank, cleaned carb/jets, plug, air filter, battery, auto choke, all fluids, belt seems to be in good shape for mileage, haven’t checked rollers yet

Transmission problems

Honda Lead 100 from 2003 odometer is 43.000km

Lately, I’ve been hearing strange noises coming from the transmission area. It’s a mix of a rattling, slapping, and sometimes a squealing sound, especially when accelerating or at idle. For example, if you open the throttle a little and then let off the throttle, it sounds a bit like sand is flying around inside the variator cover. When you're riding the scooter at 60 km/h, you hear a loud grinding noise. The problem started all of a sudden.

I‘ve changed the transmission oil which didn’t seem to have an advantage.

I took off the transmission cover to check it out. The inside was quite dirty and dusty. I did a rough cleanup and sprayed some WD-40 around the area/cover to clean things up and loosen up any stuck parts. The inside of the cover was dirty in a back kind of dirt that looked like old coal.

Surprisingly, after doing this, the noise got significantly better especially the one appearing after surpassing 60kmh.
