People not accepting matches based on character choice seems like a big problem
I swear every time I queue up, I have to match into multiple people before one accepts. My connection is really good by the way (Wired, Fiber, 4 digit download speed, and I don’t live in the middle of nowhere), so it seems like it’s just because “Ugh, I hate ____.” This happens no matter which character I’m labbing too, though it gets worse depending on the character. The worst was when I was trying out Sokka and Toph, and it would take like 5-10 matches to get an accept most of the time. This is a huge problem for the matchmaking experience. Hopefully, a ranked mode at launch wouldn’t have this issue of letting people filter for the matchups they prefer.
Giving people the option to completely avoid matchups they don’t like is bad matchmaking design. Some people will go out of their way to avoid playing literally every matchup in the game that isn’t super favorable for them. Exhibit A: Tyler1 in SF6 where he blocks everyone who is playing a character he doesn’t like fighting. At least there he isn’t interrupting people’s queues constantly though. Seems like the meta play with the current system is going to be idling in the lab with whoever the least controversial character is to bait people into accepting only to jumpscare them with Azula.
P.S. If you refuse to play against half the roster, play a different game. If you are instead just super invested in whatever you are labbing and don’t want to accept matches because of it, you can lab without being in the queue.
